Too much depends on when and why they are babysitting. If they are putting LO down for the night is rather they come to me, unless they wanted to do a sleepover or something. My mom lives almost an hour from my sister and more often goes to my sisters house to babysit. If they are done after dark she stays over. Mid day she goes back home. Occasionally my sister brings her son to my moms house, especially if she is going in that direction anyway. Nephew isn't a great sleeper so either my mom puts him down at his own house or my sister is back to my parents house in time to put him down there herself.

We don't actually have any family an hour away- bil is five minutes away everyone else is at least 4 hours.

My in laws are more like 40-45 mins. If we ask them to baby sit they will keep him overnight because they have a crib there and he's there during the week a lot.

Anyone else, they usually watch him at our house so he's comfortable. I think my SIL would stay overnight but she has a dog to get home to.

A little extra hassle, but I would just take LO there and pick her up sleepy.

I would hire someone or do a sleepover. Otherwise, it's tons of driving. We take E to MaiL's house (30 min) for a sleepover!

DH's aunt and uncle are watching the kids this weekend for my birthday and are coming to us. We've never really had anyone in our families watch our kids because they haven't offered, so it should be interesting! In your scenario I would probably hire a local sitter to avoid all that driving.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We don't have cable, so when my in-laws babysit they always offer to just keep her at their house and keep her overnight. She's a solid sleeper though, so it's really not much extra hassle for them and they LOVE having her there for breakfast in the morning.
