M was moved to the 1's room today, She's 1 year and 2 weeks old. Not only do I have to deal with her no longer being in the baby room anymore, now I am sitting here all day worrying about the fact that they only nap 1x/day in the 1's room. She wakes up at 6 and they don't nap until 12. I'm sure she's tired and cranky and I feel horrible. 
Anyone else go through this? Commiserate with me?

Thinking of you guys today! I don't have a ton of experience with daycare and naps, but I know the adjustment period can be stressful for everyone!

The going to one nap was a big concern for us too. The good news is that the stimulation in the new room really kept them awake.
We went through a REALLY rough patch for a couple of months where she would pass out either on the way home from school or when we got home. Taking a nap at 5 pm isn't great either!
Bottom line though is they get through it! Unfortunately, you will probably be stuck with the cranky part but I'm sure she'll be fine and distracted at school.

@mediagirl: When you pick her up today you should ask how she did with just one nap. I asked my daycare and they said if LO is truly needing that second nap they will make an exception and put them down for that second nap and not make them suffer!
My M is totally fine on one nap at daycare but on weekends she consistently needs 2 naps. Well except for this past weekend!

Oh, just to put your mind at ease, have you talked to them about this transition period and what if she just really needs to rest? I know when I talked to ours, they said they understand and would make accommodations. There were a few times I know they still had to put her down for a 3 pm nap.
Also, are they still in cribs or do they also move to cots?

I can commiserate with you. My LO is getting transitioned to the toddler room next week (transition period will last about 2 weeks, depending on how well she adjusts). Its going to be sad not going to the infant room every day
Plus I'm nervous because she will be the youngest in there and isn't walking yet and everyone else is already walking. Also, we're just starting to bottle wean today and I don't want her to feel frustrated or upset because she's used to a bottle and isn't walking

Aww, i totally understand how you're feeling. I remember hating that 1 nap schedule, and was close to getting a nanny to preserve her sleep!
She transitioned pretty quickly, though like some others, she needed 2 on the weekend. In the beginning, we did have to move her bedtime earlier so she was going to sleep anywhere between 6 and 7pm.

@T.H.O.U.: moving to cots. The nap is at noon so, she will have all morning to stay awake. I really don't know how she is going to be awake enough to eat lunch at 11:30!!! We talked about the need for a nap in the AM and they said there's just no space for her to nap in the AM so, they'll offer her a cot if she wants to lay down but figure she will want to be up playing, even if she is tired if she sees the other kids playing.
@yoursilverlining: it sucks. She is the youngest of the 10 kids in the room and while she is walking, she's still a baby in my eyes!! Good luck with bottle weaning.

@mediagirl: Our LO's are almost the same age. My LO takes a two hour nap for 1130-130 at daycare. I don't know how she stays awake that long. At home on the weekends, she naps at 10/1030. I think that she is just so excited and so much going on that she cant settle down to nap.
She also still takes a nap right after I pick her up at 5, and sleeps about an hour. I keep expecting her to drop this nap, but their seems to be no end in sight.
Good luck! Our LO recently switched daycare's and I was a nervous wreck since she wouldn't know anyone. She didn't' mind one bit.

Poor thing (you and DD). It is surprising that your daycare only has 1 nap in the 1yo room. The one we went to didn't transition the kids to 1 nap until 18m. Hoping she isn't too cranky but it may take a couple of days to adjust.

Aw, that seems so young for one nap...I hope they can accommodate her well if she needs to nap. Either way, I hope the transition goes quickly for you!

I was worried because my LO went into her new room with no nap schedule..random cat napper.. She didn't nap at all the first few days and had meltdowns when we got home. She started napping with the other kids a few days later...she was probably bored with no one to play with!
I hope your LO does ok!

She did great all day - other than nap time. Their nap time is from 12-3. She napped for...30 minutes. Apparently she got a little fussy in the morning but as soon as they went outside, she perked right up. They said it normally takes a week to get used to the new schedule.
We had meltdown matilda on our hands until bedtime. If we looked at her wrong, she would cry. She wouldn't eat dinner and was just generally miserable, the poor thing. She slept from 5:45pm to 6am with one wake-up at 3am last night. She was exhausted!

@Dandelion: I hope so, too! I think seeing all the other kids run around helps keep her energized. I'm glad to hear she did well but will still worry about her naps. I sent a little blanket in today for something from home to see if that helps her sleep. I doubt it will but it's an idea.

@mediagirl: Glad to hear she did okay at daycare, but bummer about how exhausted she was after!!! Hopefully she gets used to the new schedule soon and starts napping like a champ there!

Like T.H.O.U said, they'll stay awake from all the new stuff. And then when it's nap time, she'll go right to sleep. LOL!
Hopefully the transition period isn'ttoo long. Once she sees all the fun stuff she will be doing, she'll cry a little, then by the time you get in the car, she'll be fine.

I'm a SAHM so my LO gets to pick her own nap schedule, and she chose to switch to 1 nap when she turned one. So I moved her nap to 1 pm, she was pretty tired at first in the mornings but then got used to it. I just felt like if she was only taking one nap it should be in the middle of the day, not the morning. Hopefully your LO will get used to it all too!

@mediagirl: the transition is rougher on mama than baby! I know it's hard. Tyler had a rough go at it the first week he was in his new room at daycare but then adapted pretty well.

We changed daycares just after LO turned one. She had a week at home with me before the transition. She had been a horrible 2-day napper at daycare for some time and naturally transitioned to one long nap during her week at home. I didn't realize that would be the schedule at her new daycare.

My DD starts daycare in the toddler room next Monday and she's only 11 months old- will be youngest in the room. She's also used to a bottle and typically has 3 naps a day, so I fully expect switching to 1 nap a day to be a disaster. But I don't have a choice, so I'm hoping she adapts... takes 2 naps on the weekends... and starts sleeping better at night.

@mediagirl: I hated that transition. DD didn't drop her 3rd nap until she was 11 months, so she still needed that 2nd nap. I fought so hard to leave her in the baby room, but I eventually had her moved up because they have SO many more activities for them, that it really wore her out. She ended up taking her 2nd nap on the way home and eventually dropped it a couple months ago (she's 18 months now).

They transitioned my LO's class of 3 kids to 1 nap at 12 months too, and DH and I were flummoxed- on weekends, he always napped twice, and we could not have kept him up past 10:30 or 11 AM if we sat there and poked him continuously. And yet it seemed to work- they said he did fine and reliably napped 12-2 or 12-2:30 every day. I think it really is just the stimulation and routine of it all and they get used to it.

@Lozza: thank you! That is really helpful hearing that from someone else who had their lo down to one nap at daycare at 12 months. I am sure she will still nap twice on weekends for now. Love the poking comment.

@mediagirl: Oh, I'm not kidding about poking him. If he falls asleep in his carseat, he doesn't transition well to the crib and he'll end up cutting naptime short, so we will do anything to keep him awake in the car if we're heading home for naptime, and there have definitely been times when I'm turned around in the front passenger seat, just bothering LO like I'm his annoying four year old brother instead of his mom, and he's got his eyes closed and is halfheartedly batting my hand away.
