does anyone have thoughts on how frequently to BD? with our first we did it every day, and that is absolutely not sustainable now, hahaha. EOD? Every 36 hours? What's the best time window?

    cherry / 125 posts

@Rockies11: haha we have a toddler too, definitely not the same TTC as the first time around! We were lucky enough to BD 3 days prior and the day I ovulated. And that seemed like we had to really plan it

@Rockies11: I think @simplyfelicity has some charts on EOD vs ED Basically, your chances of conception are the same whether you do it ED or EOD.

    persimmon / 1363 posts

@BlessedMama: Yeah, we have been like actually scheduling procreative doing it - like we actually had our calendars out to see how we could make Thursday work, hahaha.

@KelLeeLeee: Good! I feel like I have heard that lots, but I am always paranoid that I am missing an opportunity. I have HORRIBLE baby fever this cycle, but I am trying to restrain myself from making this too unpleasant of an experience for us.

@KelLeeLeee: Hahaha, I LOVE the shout out. You know I have them ready! Also, I am sorry to hear about this month. Hoping your stay at 6 months + is extremely brief.
@Rockies11: Just like @KelLeeLeee: said, EOD and ED are very similar. Some people feel better because they are covering all their bases and others can't stand to have a sexathon every month and feel like EOD is better for sperm maturation and supply. If your DH doesn't have any count issues, than ED is fine if you are up for the task. Here are those charts as promised. Please ignore the data for O since they vary so much. Apparently, the average lifespan of sperm in the uterus is 48 hours but that also means others will live much longer. Products like Conceive Plus and Preseed are said (speculated) to elongate the life of sperm, so that helps too.

@simplyfelicity: Thanks! I feel like every 36 hours is a compromise between my type A desire for ED, and the fact that it's probably not necessary. And I know with timed cycles it's every 36, so there's got to be some science to it, right?

    @HappyBluebird: Thanks!!
@KelLeeLeee: Not sure how I'm feeling… I think our timing was really great this month, and from temping I know I ovulated… But I know a million things can go wrong so I'm not holding my breath. I'm really trying to not think about it! I think I'm 8 DPO today… Only 6 more days until I test!

@simplyfelicity: you are amazing! those charts are great.
k i gotta know... why does the data go down on -3 in all the charts?!?!?! i'm so curious as to why that's a trend. there must be a scientific reason for it!

  15. simplyfelicity

    cantaloupe / 6634 posts

@Rockies11: I think that's a great compromise! Best of luck!

  16. simplyfelicity

    cantaloupe / 6634 posts

@loki: Oh, that's because sex 3 or more days before ovulation is much less likely to result in conception. It *can* happen but is more rare. That's why people often choose between ED or EOD.

  17. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@simplyfelicity: but on -4 there's a spike in all the charts! it seems more likely -4 than -3. that is so interesting to me!

@loki: Good point! I see what you mean now. Maybe that's men with super sperm?

@simplyfelicity: guess i don't have to suffer through BD tonight! (i'm -3) haha jk jk jk.

@loki: That's great that you know exactly when you O!

Hey guys! After I got my BFN this month I decided to try OPK's. I haven't bought the digital kind left but my sister had some wondfo's left. Is this dark enough to be a positive? This is foreign territory to me.

  22. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@simplyfelicity: haha i don't ACTUALLY know for sure. i have an app on my phone though and for the last 6+ months i've been tracking. and the predicted O date EVERY MONTH i have a lot of ewcm. so i'm just assuming. it's my first cycle trying so we are just going to take it easy (as easy as a stress-case, planner can)... in a couple months if nothing has happened i will start temping/using opk's etc.

  23. Rockies11

    persimmon / 1363 posts

@littledove: I don't know if that is a hundred percent positive, but it's close enough I would treat it as a positive!

  24. simplyfelicity

    cantaloupe / 6634 posts

@littledove: Hmmmm...I would probably just BD EOD until is is really obvious. Oh and test a couple times a day, too. Some women have really short surges.

  25. simplyfelicity

    cantaloupe / 6634 posts

@loki: Oh I see! Make it light and simple as long as you can because you can't unlearn these things. If I may, based on the fact that you want to keep things easy and breezy, I recommend these. I got my the first month using them. The great thing is, you use as many as you need one month and can use the rest the next (not all digitals are like that.) I bought a box of 20 and only used four. I probably could have just used three but I wanted to verify that my surge had ended. I liked these because you don't have to decipher lines or figure out your cm. It just gives a happy face when you are near ovulation or an empty circle. Oh and amazon is the best deal for them.

@simplyfelicity: ya i think i maybe should order some for next month. i'm not an easy, breezy kinda girl haha. and it is driving me nuts kinda assuming i'm gonna O but not knowing for sure! i didn't know you could use the rest the next month, that's awful! i'll definitely order those exact ones if i dive right in. hopefully i get my BFP on the first try! (hopeful but realistic)

  27. simplyfelicity

    cantaloupe / 6634 posts

@loki: Believe me, I am not the easy breezy type at all! But, after a couple of cycles where I was obsessed with all things TTC, these helped because there was no guesswork. I hope you don't even need these OPKS but these seem to be, across the board, the most highly rated OPKS. They also make the advanced which I don't prefer (though some Bees love them.) Best of luck. I hope this is your month!

@littledove: My positives look like because I have a short surge, I'd say you are either there or very close!
