We have a floor bed and love it! DD transitioned into a "big girl bed" right at 2 and I was worried she would fall out of a regular bed. She has a twin mattress on the floor. I slept on the bed with her for a couple of days until she got used to being in a real bed, and then we were just vigilant about putting her right back in bed and cuddling her in there when she wandered for the first couple of nights. She does get out to get books and stuff occasionally but I just try to monitor the first few minutes of nap/ bed to make sure she isn't bringing things in her bed.

I'm sure this is more of a cultural thing as we are asian, so when we travel we sleep on futon on the floor of Japanese relative's house. But at home we also sleep just on a mattress on the floor. So we are all used to sleeping on the floor, and I feel its better for my kids since they move around so much when they sleep (less height to fall from if they roll out of bed)

We didn't really have to train our son or daughter to not get out of bed, they just know that when its bedtime they sleep on the bed. We have a routine for bedtime that they do everyday so maybe that is what helps. My son is sleeping through the night and will stay in the bed until he wakes up in the morning. My daughter (who we just transitioned to a floor bed at 1) does get up in the middle of the night sometimes but she doesn't actually get out of the bed she will sit up and wait for me or my husband to come to her to comfort her so she can go back to bed.

If you are thinking of transitioning to one, you may need to stay in the room with your LO for the first week or so they understand that they sleep in the bed and shouldn't get out to play etc. during the night, but I don't imagine it should be too difficult of a transition if they are already sleeping in a bed of their own.

My LO has slept in a floor bed since around 6 months. It doesn't have a frame on it like that one, it's just a mattress made up on the floor. Around a year old she went through a phase where she'd get up and go to the door every night. We just walked her back to bed each time and eventually the phase passed. She loves her bed!

I think the purpose of floor bed is that you don't restrict the child's movement in their room. We are toying with this idea, but first would need to secure the dresser to the wall. Right now we always are with LO when he is in his room, unless sleeping in his crib.

DS moved to a floor bed in a Privacy Pop tent at 26 months. We zip him up in it and he feels secure like he did in his crib (he actually loved his crib, but was starting to climb out). He just sings and hangs out in his tent until we get him up from nap or mornings.
