and you needed to take prerequisites, is it better to take them from a 4 year institution or would a community college work since they will just transfer?

I went back to medical school and had prereqs to take. I did them at University of California because I wanted to show that I could get straight A's (or close enough) in a rigorous program.

@Mrs. Jacks: Is University of California the same as your undergrad or where you were hoping to go to medical school?
It's not possible for me to go back to my alma mater as it's in another state, but I have a few options locally as far as community vs university to consider.

@anbanan15: I just picked the most reputable university near me.
If you were planning to go to a program the like the UCSF accelerated MSN program, it would probably be better to get prereqs somewhere strong. It would also be worthwhile contacting the program that you want to go to and ask them what they recommend.

@Mrs. Jacks: Thanks! Very helpful. I feel like there are so many options/routes you can take that it's hard to narrow down what the best one is.

I went back to get my DPT (doctorate of physical therapy). I didn't have much choice but to take my pre-reqs at the community college because the local Cal State school was too overfilled. I was worried about how they would judge an A from a community college versus a university, but I got into to all schools I applied to (including the top ranked school). I'm sure it depends on the program you're applying to though. I'd try talking to someone from the program or admissions to get their take on it.
Good luck!

@BeachMama: thanks! That gives me another perspective. I'm goin to contact admissions.
