We have a couple cans of formula lying around around and I don't want to waste them, is it OK to use them up and then switch p to whole milk after the formulas gone. He just turned 1 yr on July 9

I don't see why not. Most people don't just cause it's so much more expensive than whole milk. If you already have some, then you might as well.
I'd use it to wean to sippy cups.

We finished up ours giving 1 bottle a day for a few weeks after she turned 1. The other FF mom I know did the same. We both did it in combination with whole milk.

Glad you asked this as we just bought two containers of formula last night to hopefully get us through until late August.
