Other.
Me: 9:00-5:00
DH: 9:00 - 5:00 with the option to make up time at home (which helps since we have one car and I have to be out of the building by 5).
coconut / 8234 posts
I work 10-6. DH works 8-4, but he's a teacher so he normally is in the building until 5.
@BKCaribBaby: Me too! A lot of people seem to get off at 4/4:30. I've never worked at a place that had that as an option.
grapefruit / 4066 posts
@BKCaribBaby: my commute is an hour, so I need to leave early to pick LO up from daycare. My work has flexible hours though. My boss and a few other people leave at 3:30 every day!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@mrsjazz, manufacturing is notorious for early hours! Shit, i miss working 6:30-3:00!
pomegranate / 3577 posts
Other. My hours are completely unpredictable. But I can sometimes have big chunks of time free. When I work in the afternoons, I'm usually done, on average, around 4:30.
pear / 1672 posts
Got it, everyone!
@Smurfette: That makes sense. At one point, I think I may ask for a 4:30pm end time as well.
cherry / 181 posts
I'm a teacher, so it's really variable. I'm required to be there 8:05am - 4:05pm, but I'm typically there 7:00am - 4:30pm. I have no idea how this will change when LO comes though!
coconut / 8234 posts
@blackbird: Wow, that is way too early for me! Though I'm not the biggest fan of my current 10-6, I thought I would be but it's not like I get to sleep in!

@BKCaribBaby: I operate under a billable hour system, so I am required to bill a certain number of hours per year, regardless of whether I am physically present (or sick or on vacation!) or not. (Just being present in the office doesn't count . . . I can spend 10 hours in the office and only bill 7-8 of those hours. . . more often than not, I spend more time working than my billable hours reflect.) This system does provide me with greater flexibility (in some regards) than most, but there are some serious downsides to it as well.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Me: 7-4, but it's flexible as long as I get my stuff done
DH: used to be 2am till 2pm.
honeydew / 7091 posts
I said 8-5 because those are my technical hours, but it's more like 7:30 - 6:00. 8 hours days are a luxury
honeydew / 7091 posts
@MsLipGloss: Billable hours suck for us. DH's has to be 100% billable. It takes a lot of time for him to bill 8 hours!
ETA: But I agree, when things work out nicely, it *can* provide awesome flexibility
pomelo / 5220 posts
I work 9-5.
DH works about 12 hours a day, usually 7-7 on good days. Then he comes home and continues reading emails and taking phone calls until bed.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@swurlygurl: I am 100% billable too. Billable time can be a really difficult concept for people to grasp (and fully appreciate the challenges it presents). And the mental pressure . . . *oy* . . . constantly calculating hours, the *re-set* at the beginning of the month/quarter/year . . . it can really drive you to drink!
Come to think of it . . . tomorrow is the first! hahaha! . . . so I get to *start all over* for August.
clementine / 928 posts
Third shift for me. DH is a teacher so 730-530 for him most days, especially during the fall as he's also a football coach for his middle school.
persimmon / 1165 posts
I work 8-4:45. DH only recently had a somewhat normal schedule set, so he's typically 7-5. Before that, it would be 7 to 6-9 at night. Ugh!
@MsLipGloss: @swurlygurl: I also work in a billable environment, but fortunately I'm not required to be 100%. I think my formal expectation is 96%, but that pretty much never happens. Fortunately, our management recognizes this is a bogus target. Basically, just bill as much as possible!
cherry / 102 posts
I work 8-5. Dh does 7-3 or 3-11 depending on if he has picked up a pierdiem shift at his old job.
pear / 1672 posts
@MsLipGloss: Former attorney, so I get billables (and don't miss them!). I think the general work culture in this part of country leans toward 9-5 as a general rule. I do know some people with 8-4 schedules.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
9-5 is the guideline, but it really doesn't matter much so long as the work gets done.
grapefruit / 4554 posts
I do 8-5 M-Th but can change if patients cancel on me.
DH works 9-4, so he does pickup and drop off.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
I work 8:45-3:45 and DH works 7:30-3:15.
The schedule is one of the only pros to being a teacher in this state!
persimmon / 1129 posts
I work part-time - 7:30 to 5 three days a week and 7:30 to noon one day a week. The 7:30 arrival time is half an hour before the office technically opens but I come in early to get my hours up to 75% to qualify for health insurance while still being able to have a half day and one day off.
DH works 7-4 so I do drop off and he does pick up.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Me: 8:30-5, but I get there at 8 (so I can get a parking spot).
Him: Other, semi-flex second shift. Mondays he usually works 12-12/1, and by Friday his schedule is more like 2-7/8. In times are set, out times are flexible.
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@Espion: ditto. My schedule is too unpredictable to list. When I'm on service I get in at 7 am and try not to work past 7 pm now that I have kids. Overnights are generally 16 hours, but can run longer if I'm still admitting at seven am. Off service things are much more flexible.
eggplant / 11716 posts
I work 7:50-3:15 p, (teacher)---BUT I have a one hour commute, so I leave home at 6:45 am and get home at 4:15 pm (that doesn't include daycare pick up/drop off). By the time I get LO and get home, its usually 4:45. ETA: We also tend to have a lot of trainings and meetings after school, so on those days I don't get home till 5 or later. It really sucks when I have to leave at 6:45 am. And "meet the teacher" nights or curriculum fairs? I don't get home till 9 pm and go whole days without seeing LO at all. Boo
DH works 8:30-minimum 6:30 pm.....but sometimes he needs to go in early or work later. It's "early" if he's home by 7 pm these days. He also works through lunch most days.
persimmon / 1331 posts
@NurseMommy: 8-8 huh? Interesting! Do you work in a hospital? ETA just saw you work in the ER. That explains the different shifts... Unless floor nurses work that too?
We don't have office jobs. We don't work "normal people hours". Haha. I'm 7am-7:30pm 3 days a week (nurse). DH is 48 hours on (7am-7am 2 days later) then off for 4 days, then repeat (firefighter).
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Him: 7 am to 4 pm, M-F, every other Friday off (most of the time); Fridays (when he's off) and Sundays he works all day from home
* his commute is wicked- leave at 5:30 am, arrive at 7 pm or later
Me: 8 am to 5pm, M-F, although as my office is in my house I am usually logged onto my laptop working around 6 am
papaya / 10560 posts
I drop off at 730 and get to work about 740. I work anywhere from 4-530. Usually 5ish. DH works insane hours around the clock.
clementine / 812 posts
Me: 8-4 officially but I usually leave around 5-5:30. Busy times I stay until 6-7. Really busy times 9-10pm.
DH works 7-3:30 summers and 7:30-4 winters.
I will do drop off and he will do pick up. We will see why my schedule looks like after baby. I will not handle missing bedtime routines very well.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
I'm 8-430. His differs; it's either 10-3/4, 3/5-9, 10-9 (SUCKS) and on the weekends 10-5 on Saturdays.
pear / 1812 posts
@Emsmems: most of the floor nurses work 7-7, and the other ERs in our area are either 7-7 or 7:30-7:30. No idea why our hours are different.
coconut / 8483 posts
I worked from home 830-5. But I was home so it was pretty flexible. I was usually "on" from 10-3.
DH is in training so he's working 8-430. Eventually he will be back on shift which flips between days and nights that are 12.5 hours (615-645).
persimmon / 1367 posts
Right now, DH is 9-6:30 but he takes an 1.5 hours in the middle of the day to work out and have lunch. I am 11am-7pm with lots of other stuff (calls/emails/etc) throughout non working hours. Post-baby that's all going to change because there's no way to make that work. I'm changing to a 9 to 5ish type job after maternity leave and my husband is switching to 8:30 - 5, since our daycare closes at 5:30!
persimmon / 1177 posts
DH is supposed to work 8-5, but it's really 8-6 (or later).
I work from home, but my "office hours" are 9-5.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
8-5 are my set hours, but the last two days I worked 730-6 and 8-630. If we're busy, I have to work more.
DH works 9-5ish, with one WFH day a week. He does have to work some evening/weekend events as well as some travel.
