Does anyone else have a fussy eater? Not fussy about what they eat but fussy while eating. I had to nurse M in the airport and on two planes yesterday. She is not a calm eater. I'm so jealous of moms who can breastfeed and do other things at the same time. M kicks, groans, pops on and off and fails her arms around during nursing sessions. My husband says she reminds him of soccer player Pele and a vacuum cleaner yesterday. Haha.

Could it be reflux? My lo used to get fussy while she ate and she had reflux, I think it was because her tummy was bothering her

Mine is fussy 10 percent of each feed. It happens while he's pooping. Yep, he likes to poop while feeding. He gets all squirmy and kicks and sometimes pops on and off. During the rest of the feed he is calm...just uses his top hand to feel around, but that's about it.

My best friend has been saying that her baby is like that and she just got diagnosed with reflux. But it sounds like M probably just likes it quiet and peaceful when she eats?

My LO is not a calm nurser either. She almost always has one hand pinching, stroking, pulling, or waving around. When she's really wound up she kicks her legs too. It does make nursing in public difficult.

@Andrea: @artbee: I think it might be reflux. Other than the common symptoms of reflux that she is showing, she is gaining weight and such a good/happy baby. I feel bad for her but since it doesn't appear there is anything you can do for reflux, we have just been dealing with it. The fussy nursing sessions in public sure are interesting, though! I gave up on the cover on our last flight and just let it all hang out. Haha.

Tyler was a really fussy eater when I was BF and we don't exactly know why. He struggled and never was content/settled after feedings (he didn't scream, but just was unsettled). We got a "probable" diagnosis of reflux and he has been on Zantac since about 6 weeks. However, around that time I decided to bottle feed pumped milk and he did a lot better with eating. A few weeks later he had a small amount of blood in his poo, which led our ped to think he has a dairy intolerance (or even MSPI). I eliminated MOST dairy from my diet at 8 weeks and he seems better, though he has the very occasional fleck of blood in his poo. We are not even sure if he has a dairy intolerance since I do have small amounts of dairy and he doesn't seem to have problems with it....and he could just have an anal fissure. It turns out that fussing/struggling with eating can also be caused by a food intolerance, most likely dairy or MSPI.
Anyways, long way of saying, she could just be a fussy eater, or she could have reflux, and/or she also could have a food intolerance. FWIW you can treat reflux - you may want to ask to go on a trial of reflux meds to see if it improves. If it does, you will know that's the cause of the issue. Good luck!

@mediagirl: Yeah it seemed a bit gross at first but I'm pretty used to it now, as he does it at almost all of the wake-up (from the night or a nap) feedings, and has been doing it for almost his whole life. I'm wondering how it will play-out with potty-training....hopefully he outgrows it by then! (4.5 months now)

my son used to do that and it was reflux. the ped put him on Zantac and it helped a lot!
