Gahh... Mom's Room booked and meeting scheduled during my time!

So I just got a meeting invite for a recurring meeting every Thursday that's during one of my pumping times! I feel like it's an important meeting that I should attend and, given the option, I'd just pump right before or right after the meeting. But our Mom's Room is BOOKED. There only time available is 2 hours earlier than when I normally pump! And if I pumped then, I'd have to go almost 5 hours between then and when I nurse Xander after work!

Gahhhhh!!!!

I called HR and basically said "WTF am I supposed to do? Just skip this important meeting??" Now she's trying to find me an office that I can use temporarily, but good luck with that! She has to find one before tomorrow afternoon!

Will they tell you who's in the time you need? Or can they contact that person and see if they can switch?

@BlueWolverine: Yeah, I asked, and no, they can't give me the names of the other women in the room. Otherwise I could totally just try to switch with someone! Ugh, so frustrating!

That's annoying that they can't tell you who else is using it so you can try to switch - hopefully they can find you a room to use during the time you need it!

@Adira: could you possibly leave a note in the mom's room with a personal email address, and ask anyone else using the room to drop you an email so you could coordinate in the future?

@Adira: Or can HR at least be an intermediary and ask the other mom(s) if they can switch with you? That way they aren't giving you the names...

Ugh, I'm sorry. I feel like I'm missing work opportunities all the time because of pumping and nursing at lunch

For this week could you ask the meeting organizer to reschedule? You could just say you have a conflict. Or can they reschedule it to another time on a permanent basis?

@NeekieRose: You would think so, but she didn't suggest it, so maybe not? I'm not sure - I didn't think to ask.

@cmomma17: Thanks! I may just end up going to half the meeting, though that will suck. Or maybe the meeting could move to accommodate me, I don't know!

Is there a way you could pump in your car or ask to use a co-worker's office to pump during your usual time?

@sunny: Yeah, I'm not sure! And I'm not sure when to ask now that HR is looking for a room for me. I'd hate to ask them to move it only to have HR come back with a room and the meeting didn't need to move. But I'd also hate to not say anything and then HR doesn't find me a room and I end up missing half of the meeting! I'm not sure what to do! Though the meeting organizer can see that I'm busy during 30 minutes of the meeting, so I would think that if he could have moved it to a different time, he would have...?

@HabesBabe: Pumping in my car COULD be an option, except our parking lot is ridiculously long, so it would take me an extra 15 minutes during the day since it's a long walk to my car and back! As far as a co-worker's office, unfortunately, all my co-workers that HAVE offices are men, so I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable asking them!

@mrbee: That's true! I'll definitely leave a note in the Mom's Room and see if anyone responds! The only thing is, I won't see the answer's until my session tomorrow morning, and I'm not sure if it'll be enough time to coordinate a switch.

@Adira: I'd reach out to the meeting organizer. Tell them you have a standing commitment at that time and can only come to half of the meeting but you'd really love to be a part of this meeting long term and is there any chance the time could be adjusted?

@cmomma17: I definitely want to do that, but now I'm nervous about asking because the HR lady is trying to find me a room and I'll feel bad if she goes through all this work only for the meeting time to change...

@Adira: Try not to feel bad (I know it's hard). She's just doing her job and she won't be hurt if the meeting time changes and you don't need the room.

I agree with @cmomma17: ... I wouldn't worry too much about your HR person's feelings! This is all about making sure you get what you need to be effective in your job!!

@Smurfette: Yes, thanks for asking!! HR actually decided to be my go-between with the other women and she found out that the woman who has the timeslot right before my meeting is on vacation this week, so I can use it then. And THEN I got the meeting organizer to move the meeting for the upcoming weeks to a different time, so I can keep my normal pump time! So it's all been resolved!
