We have struggled greatly with getting our toddler to sleep in her bed. We have tried reward systems, a new blanket, a new doll, and we've done the opposite of yelling/threatening toys away, ect. She hates her bed, and wants to sleep on the couch. We can (do) move her to her bed after she falls asleep and she will stay in there usually, but i really want her to go to sleep in her room. Any tips? This has been going on for a year now!

Oh wow! What about taking her to get a new bedding set to get her excited about her room again? I think you need to start putting your foot down otherwise. DD1 went through a phase where she wanted to sleep on the couch or in our bed and we would straight up said no. If she kept coming out she would lose her stuffed animals. I've even held her door shut during epic door kicking tantrums. It sounds cruel but necessary.

@regberadaisy: We've tried this as well, holding the door but then she made herself sick from crying so hard...it had the reverse affect of thinking her room was a punishment instead of her sanctuary. We did let her buy a new blanket for her bed, but maybe I will see if she wants to pick out new bedding to see if that will work if it's a whole set. 2 nights ago she slept on the floor of her room, I guess it's a start. I asked if she thought her mattress was uncomfortable and she said "it's not soft like yours..." so I thought about a mattress pad too now that she's 3 the risk for SIDS is pretty much gone (my fear so we got a firm mattress.)

Would she be open to a floor bed? Does she just not like being alone in her room? Does she have a nightlight?

@petunia354: she has slept on the floor but it's her being in her room alone that is getting her. She has a nightlight and a princess hologram light that shines above her bed that she says they are keeping her safe.

What if you leave the door open so she can hear y'all and won't feel so alone?
My LO wants her door open every night lately. She screams if we shut it. So we just tell her if she gets out of bed then we will shut the door, and it is working on keeping her in bed all night.

she has a dimmer switch so we keep the light on 1/2 way.

If she's ok with being moved to her room once she's asleep, would she be able to fall asleep if you stayed in the room with her, and then you could leave once she was asleep? This would probably be a pain for you but hopefully you could then phase it out - you could move to sitting just outside the door, etc.

@erinbaderin: @LuLu Mom: That's what I would suggest too! I had to do this with DS and I just brought in my kindle and sat in his bean bag and read until he fell asleep

@erinbaderin: she wants us to lay with her, and then either 1) we fall asleep or 2) she wakes as soon as we get up even though she's asleep. I"ll have to try just sitting in a chair in there.
