After a great LC appt yesterday, I put LO to breast last night and he latched immediately. He popped off a few times, but he's getting the hang of it. We still have a lot of work to do, but it was a big relief to be able to get him to latch on my own, without the LC's help.
I'm experimenting with different holds, different chairs in the house, and different pillows to see what works best. Last night we tried sitting upright in bed with bed pillows as support for the football hold. The pillows were sliding around quite a bit and I was bringing the breast to him instead if bringing him to the breast, and I think that impacted his latch a little. There were a few times he was definitely too shallow.
We had to give him a bottle afterwards (baby steps, I know he's going to need time to work on his latch and getting used to breastfeeding after 6 weeks of bottles) but instead of taking his typical 4oz, he took 3oz, which makes me think he probably was able to transfer close to an oz.
I'm so thrilled with the progress we've made, finding someone who supports us, getting him latched, and him transferring an ounce. It's way more than I ever dreamed we'd accomplish on day one. We're going to keep on keeping on and just work on finding the hold and position that works best
I'm so excited and so beyond grateful for all the wonderful support I've gotten on HB!
