Just curious to know how concerned your newborns' pediatricians have been about percentiles for growth? I've had some breast feeding issues and my one month old's weight gain hasn't always pleased the doctor. The issues have seemed to be supply and/or her ability to transfer efficiently based on a couple weighted feeds at a lactation clinic and observations by my midwife and the lactation nurse that her suck is a bit disorganized (which the nurse at the pediatrician's office also seemed to agree with after observing a feeding). I'm taking supplements to hopefully boost supply if that's an issue.
Anyway, at two weeks she was only up 2.5 (before not knowing we had issues), not quite back to birth weight of 8 lb 1 oz. Per the pediatrician's concerns, I started to supplement 2-3 x a day after feedings where my daughter still seemed hungry and this is when I began taking fenugreek which she also recommended. The next week my daughter was up 9 oz. This week I backed off supplementing since it seemed like she was more satiated and my supply was (seemingly) more regulated.
In 9-10 days she gained 6oz this time and is at 9.1 lbs. She's now in the 39th percentile for weight and 95th for length. My midwife said she's probably just fine (i've been giving her updates weekly- we have gone to the pediatrician's office weekly because of her concern for weight gain) but I can't help but feel a little worried since the doctor really wants to see her gain closer an ounce a day. I offered her a bottle and she didn't want it last night but did take it another time after nursing (usually 30-45 min sessions). I am planning to offer and see if she wants it. I want her to be healthy but I feel a bit confused on who/what to listen to because there is so much out there to read and get overwhelmed by. I've looked at the growth charts (my pediatrician uses one by the CDC) and the one by the WHO seems to put her closer to 50% for weight but I can't quite tell if I am reading it accurately.
Anyway, just curious to know how percentiles were used early on with your babies! I'd love to be able to simply breastfeed but am not against supplementing... its just been an emotional month trying to figure out what is "right" for us.
