Since my babe turned 1 and I got pregnant shortly after that, we've been slowly cutting back on the feedings (mostly at his initiative). We'd been just nursing once a day, in the mornings, for quite awhile, and I got the feeling he wasn't getting much milk. Then he didn't want to for a couple days in a row, and now it's been maybe 4-5 days straight? So I guess it's official... at 18 months he's off the boob. I feel kind of sad but it was inevitable. I guess I can try and enjoy having my boobs to myself for the next 4 months....

I have a feeling I'll be weaning in the next couple of months and it makes me sad, so I can sympathize. But at least you'll only have 4 months to go before you have that bonding process with your new LO.

@BabyBoecksMom: @brownie: Thanks ladies! It's funny because it's such a big commitment at first that it seems like it will be very freeing when it's all over, but in the end since it was just once a day, it was no inconvenience at all! I'll miss it....

the only inconvenience of nursing for me is that i can't drink (i'm a wino). other than that, i know i will be sad when i eventually wean. she's almost 9 months old already!

I think that if you are BFing while pregnant, the milk changes back to colostrum sometime in the second trimester. Some toddlers self-wean at that point because they don't like the taste of the colostrum. That may explain it, if it makes you feel better.

@sloaneandpuffy: Feeding babies in general is all consuming. We are always worried about how much, how often, quality, etc.

@Mrs. Bee: Yes. Now that I'm pregnant (plus semi-boring and not all that social), the whole "at least I can go out and get tipsy" incentive is just not there anymore

My cousin ended up tandem nursing once her second came even though she thought her toddler had weaned when she was pregnant.
