I know most people suggest renting one from the hospital and buying an electric pump, but I came across a Lansinoh Manual breast pump that seems to have great reviews. I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience with the Lansinoh manual pumps

That's the pump I have and I like it. It has a silicone 'comfort' thing that goes over the flange that was terribly uncomfortable for me but once I took that off it's worked really well and is very convenient for traveling.

I haven't used that one, but I had a couple manual pumps for emergencies; I mostly kept them in the car because I was using a rented hospital pump that I didn't want to carry with me all the time. I used both the Ameda conversion kit that worked with the hospital pump and used the Medela manuals. The Medela one was more comfortable on my hands, but the flanges seemed too small and so hurt the boobs.

I am hoping to pick up a cheap one for emergencies because hand expressing doesn't really work for me. I use the medela freestyle at home and am hoping to get something that fits similarly

I have a Medela manual pump and also the PISA. I like to use the manual every once in awhile to mix things up. I had originally purchased the manual pump for a trip since my electric pump at the time (Avent) did not have a car or battery adapter. I've since moved on to the wonderful world of PISA

I'm curious about this too. I'm not sure that I need a fancy, expensive pump since I'm planning on mostly breastfeeding directly. I'd like to be able to pump some so that my husband (or others) can feed from time to time and for the odd night out, but I don't need a stockpile or anything since I'll be home with the baby.
For now, I'll just hold off on buying anything until I figure out what I really need. -

I think they're just two entirely different things. I knew I'd be going back to work and pumping every day, and I also wanted to build up a freezer stash during maternity leave. I would never have wanted to rely on a manual pump for this kind of constant use.
I think of manual pumps as being an less expensive option for people who don't need to pump all that much, like if you're a nursing SAHM who just wants to have the occasional bottle available.
When I think of how I would rate my pumps (I have a hospital rental at home, a Pump in Style at work, and a manual pump that lives at my parents' house), I have totally different expectations- I expect to get (at least) three times the amount of milk from one of my electric pumps than from the manual, and I can also do other stuff while using the electric (i.e. I can still use my hands to type or read or whatnot), while if I'm manually pumping, that is all I am doing. -
I wont really be trying to build up a freezer stash , more like a fridge stash but just for the day or a few days ahead.. I dont have it all figured out yet since I will be going back to work after the baby comes, but I'm just not a fan of freezing breast milk.

I've never heard of someone using a manual pump to use for pumping at work if they work a full day. Most people need to pump ~3x/day with an electric pump at work to make enough for their LO to eat the next day.

I have the Medela Harmony, which I got at Target for $35. You can order different flange sizes to fit your breasts, as well as replacement parts on the pumping portion (which I found out b/c my dog chewed up the piece that creates suction, great!) I really like it. I can attach it to any bottle, so I can pump directly into it instead of risking any spillage. I've been using it for 3 months now, and the suction has held up really well. Like you, I mainly nurse from the breast, and have a small fridge stash for dinners out and hubby help. I'm really happy with this pump
