I’ve been looking at tutorials for converting your regular bras and wondering how likely I am to screw it up. I really need a supportive underwire nursing bra and it’s so hard (and expensive) to find the perfect one. I have a bra I basically wore out during pregnancy that I thought might be a good test subject, but if anyone has tips or warnings would love to hear it!
ETA I can sew in a straight line but no major skills

@bhbee: I have not. But I got underwire nursing bras from soma and was happy with them. They were not crazy expensive either. Which I know is not your question but in case it is helpful...

@bhbee: I am actually working on making my own bra now! I sew a lot though and have made several different garments before attempting this. So I wouldn’t say it was for a beginner as you will be sewing lots of curves with small seam allowances.
But I bought my nursing bras at soma and loved them.

@bhbee: Attaching the clips might be easy, you might just be able to snip the strap and attach them there, but it's fiddly.

Another vote for Soma! I also read somewhere that Nordstrom will turn any bra into a nursing bra (add clips), but I haven’t tried that.

@bhbee: @BadgerMom: yeah I was going to say Nordstrom will do that--but it's not like you can bring your ratty old bra in, you have to buy one there
ETA and on that note the Natori Feathers bra is the holy grail of bras

I had great luck with Leading Lady or Loving Moments from Amazon.... the bran was named something like that and I can't look it up right now.
