I was on craigslist, and saw an ad for a woman wanting to sell breastmilk (she says she will pump what you need), and looking for $1.50 an ounce. I have seen a lot of things on CL, but this struck me as very odd. Have you heard of this? What is your opinion?

I feel like the sort of person who would sell their breastmilk is the sort of person I wouldn't want breastmilk from... but maybe I'm too judgmental.

I have heard of it. Personally, I would never accept donor milk through craigslist as there is no sort of regulation or guarantee that the woman is living a healthy life style.

I would be willing to purchase breastmilk, but not from someone thats advertising it for sale.

Craigslist is not a place I would buy the sole source of nutrition for the most vulnerable member of my family. I think Craigslist is sketchy when I'm buying a chair, much less breast milk!
That being said, my son had donor milk at birth from a reputable milk bank and I thought that was fine.

That is crazy! I've never heard of anyone trying to sell breast milk and I would never purchase from off of something like Craigslist.
I think it is an amazing gift when women donate to friends or donor banks, but I have to give the side eye to anyone trying to make money off of something like that.

There are legitimate reasons for non-infant consumption of breast milk (esophageal cancer patients drink it for relief) and I've heard of people selling it for reasons like that.
I still think it's sketchy though.

I have heard of it. probably through HB. i'd never buy it. And even if it were through a reputable source, I don't think I would get donor milk. seems complicated and I would be fine giving formula (not thrilled at first I am sure but for different reasons)

I've heard of people buying it for bodybuilding /workout purposes. My friend dated a guy that did that.

I am not against donor milk but I think as of right now we are really in need of more reputable places to get it from. Since I know that I can physically make milk I would not be likely to buy it- it'll be bf or formula. I'm ok with formula feeding our next lo since I formula fed my daughter, even if it's not ideal. Craigslist is just not a good place to buy breast milk.

Absolutely not! I did DONATE my breastmilk after LO couldn't drink it but I never thought to try and make money off of it.

Yikes. Who knows what diseases she has? I think reputable milk banks or getting milk from a known and trusted source is great, but this is so sketch. :T
