Anyone have poor ovarian reserve results and able to get pregnant? Did you have interventions? If so, what kind? I just got results back today and am being referred to an RE. I'm 37 next week and pretty worried about this all. Thanks for the support Bees!

Spaniellove did, but unfortunately she deactivated her account. Maybe search for her username for some old posts? I know that the treatment that ended up working for her was estrogen priming in the luteal phase and TI, but I don't remember exactly what else she was doing, as far as ovary-stimulating meds, etc. Try also searching DOR (diminished ovarian reserve). Low reserve certainly doesn't mean no eggs! Good luck at the RE

I did not have low AMH but my FSH was borderline. We got pregnant naturally. We tried for about 7 months. What worked for us was LOTS and LOTS of sex.

My FSH was 7 back in 2011 before I had my son, that's considered above average but normal my AMH was .5 which is low. FSH is supposed to flycvruate a lot an only be as good as your higheat reading but AMH is more constant usually. I was very lucky and was able to conceive very quickly with my son and by the 7th month with this pregnancy. I've seen a lot of women with DOR go on to conceive. It's good to know what's going on so that you can move things along but your odds of another healthy pregnancy are still pretty good. I'm sorry that you are going through this and I'll pray you fall pregnant very soon.

@travellingbee: I have low AMH and high FSH (close to 10). We ended up needing IVF to conceive but we also had male factor issues. FIW FSH naturally increases with age and conversely AMH declines. An RE will be able to do an antra follicle count as well as blood tests to determine what if any issues you are dealing with. Has your DH had an SA yet?

@mrswin: Yes his SA came back normal. So you are saying that even though the tests came back abnormal, I might still not have any issues?

I did. My FSH was a 20.3 (!!!) and my AMH was .3. I did injections plus IUI and we got our twins on the first round (lucky!). Had tried 9 cycles naturally before that with one chemical pregnancy on cycle 4. Don't despair, you can definitely still get pregnant!

@MrsMccarthy: My FSH was 29.8 but that was at ovulation not cd3 (not sure why they tested it then). She said AMH stays more constant. My AMH was at .73 which seems pretty low but I am trying to stay optimistic.

@travellingbee: that's odd timing for the FSH test. And .7 is low but not nil for AMH. I've read that the best indicator though is getting your AFC. A lot of older women can have high numbers And go on to conceive naturally or with minimal help. As I said though I do think its good that you have an RE on your side to save you time and work through treatment options right away. I'll be thinking of you and hope to see you KU very soon.

An RE work-up is definitely advisable. Lots of things that can be checked before IVF and most insurance will at least pay for a consult.

@travellingbee: Well given that they tested your FSH at a weird time the RE will want to see where it is at on CD3 and probably do an antra follicle count (an ultrasound to count potential follicles on CD3) which will tell them more about what the issues might be. I think it is possible that your low AMH could just be because of your age but the other factor will allow the RE to have to whole picture.

@Trailmix: hi! my amh is .61 and i think my re is going to recommend medicated iui cycles. might i ask what you injected (so i am prepared with some basic knowledge when we do my ultrasound)? also congrats on your twins! wow!

@wrkbrk: I did Gonal-F (I think it was over two years ago, crazy!) and I know it was a high dosage, maybe 450iu per injection? It's not too bad, it sounded intense and scary before we started but once it was over, it's really not hard. I stimmed for 11 days, then did a trigger injection, which makes you ovulate. 24-36 hours after the trigger, we did the IUI, which for most is a super quick, totally painless procedure. 11 days later, I was staring at a positive pregnancy test (and life has never been the same since!)

Me but I can't remember my numbers! After several unsuccessful IUIs, we did IVF and got PG on the first try. I am currently holding my 4 month old. Good luck!!!

out of curiosity, did you have short cycles? mine are about 24 days and thats what tipped off my RE to test for amh ... well anyway congrats on your babies -
@wrkbrk: yes, very short! 21-22 days long, with a 7-8 day luteal phase.

So they have referred me to an RE. The 1st doctor I called couldn't get me in until late November. Grr.. the 2nd got me in next Tuesday. But my concern is that I am spotting now so likely to start AF in the next couple of days. That also means that I will be on like cd 6 when I go in, and too late for any further testing this cycle.
I know that means at least another cycle for testing and another cycle before treatments. So... we are looking at not even trying to conceive with treatments until December. @wrkbrk: I have fairly short cycles too. They range from 24-26 days and are on the longer end right now because of supplements. No one ever mentioned that connection to me before! How interesting!

@travellingbee: Even if you are CD6 by the time you meet the doctor you may be able to schedule a couple of tests, like an HSG or CD21 bloodwork and then start with the other testing at the start of the following cycle. All of that said be prepared there is a lot of hurry up and wait involved in seeing an RE/IF!

@travellingbee: are you doing acupuncture? It really helped me with the stress of TTC. There are a ton of people who get pregnant waiting for fertility treatments. I wouldn't stop trying unless that is 100% what you want to do.

@BandDmommy: Oh yeah. No we won't stop trying for sure. And luckily (?!) I have shortish cycles so at least I don't have to wait as long as others might.
ETA: no I haven't done acupuncture for fertility before. Maybe I will try it.
@mrswin: Oh that is good. What does the FSH test for? What do they run at the 21 day ones? I had progesterone tested at cd21 and she thought it was normal. -

Got diagnosed at 30. I did a lot of TCM and got pregnant on our first round of IVF. We tried one IUI which we had to cancel due to over stimulation. I honestly think the info we gathered from that failed cycle helped us to find the right protocol later on.DOR is a tough pill to swallow! I had a very hard time dealing with it and accepting it. Especially because technically you CAN get pregnant and it's a bit harder to find the right protocol if you choose to go down the medicated route.
Make sure your RE creates a protocol for you specific to your case/ numbers and doesn't start with a one fits all.Good luck!!!! Don't give up!!!

Can you ask the RE that you have an appointment with to order CD3 tests before your appointment? That way you may have more accurate info when you actually have your appointment. My RE had us do all of the testing prior to the appointment and then we were able to come up with a plan. One thing my RE did tell me was to think about treatment in 3 month increments. When you are trying to get pregnant it feels like every month counts, so the waiting is really hard. By the time we did all of the testing (HSG etc) it was 2 months from our original meeting with the RE.

@brady80: Thanks. I did think of that and called them this morning to ask that very question. They said that no, they couldn't order tests before the consultation. I asked them to put me on a wait list for any cancellations this week.

Good news. There was a cancellation and they are able to get us in tomorrow for my consultation. That means that we might be able to get started with testing etc. this next cycle. I expect tomorrow will be cd1.
