I've taken two rounds of clomid (to extend LP, I ovulate on my own). At 50mg days 5-9 I ovulated on CD20, and at 100mg, I ovulated on CD20 again!

@Crystal, do you O on your own? It probably couldn't hurt to start it on CD3. My Dr. ordered CD5 because that can produce a more mature follicle, which helps to support LP.

@Crystal: So weird, he wants you to ovulate earlier but not move up your dates?? I've "heard" (without any research to support) that taking Clomid earlier in your cycle makes you more likely to produce more than one egg - maybe he's really concerned about the chance of multiples? I would say that as long as you're comfortable doing CD3-7, then go for it.

I've done several rounds of clomid with varying start days and O only changed when I started the clomid earlier in my cycle. I was told that the earlier you take it the more eggs you will produce but the quality may not be as good compared to taking it later (5-9).

@Crystal: When I first started TTC I only had 3-4 periods a year and the clomid did help me ovulate usually around day 16-18.

@Crystal: it may just be anecdotal, but I ovulated earlier on Femara than Clomid. On my own I ovulate around CD 18-20, and with Clomid (50mg, unmonitored) it was the same (personally I feel like it didn't do anything at that dose). On 100mg I ovulated on CD 15, and with 2 follicles each time. On Femara, I ovulated one follicle on CD 13.

ETA: Clomid is supposed to make you ovulate roughly a 5 days to a week after your last dose, so if it's not doing that, I think your dose is too low, not necessarily that you need to take it earlier.
