I have seen a lot of back and forth on whether you wore your own clothing after giving birth. Did you stay in a gown or switch to PJs/althletic clothes?

Many people told me not to bother with my own pajamas or clothes because I'd bleed all over them. I did bleed a lot and stayed in a hospital gown on the first day in the postpartum room. On the second day I showered and got into the special nightgown/robe set I brought, and even put on some makeup, and it felt amazing. I stayed in the disposable underwear and gigundo peach pads, and changed the pads very frequently, probably every 30 mins! But I was so glad to get into pretty clothes. And I actually love hospital gowns!

@mrs. wagon: When you stayed in the hosptial gown, did you wear a robe for more coverage if you had guests come in the room? I feel like I will be very much like you, stay in the gown the day of, but I will want to wear something cute the next day when the majority of our visitors will be there!

@jessiejo17: That's exactly what I did! I wore the hospital gown and another one open in the front, as a robe, for the first day when just our closest friends and family came to visit. Then the next day after my shower I decided to just try the pretty clothes and I'm so glad I did-- we had tons of visitors and took so many pictures!

I always wore the hospital gown and then had blankets on when I was in bed with visitors, then did have robes too. I was in the "I don't want to ruin my own shiz" camp.

I gave birth at like 5ish in the evening and I stayed in a gown until the next morning. Then I showered and put a pair of gaucho pants on with a tank. If you decide to wear your own stuff make sure its easy access because your nurse will probably check you a few times a day. I bought a robe and it wasn't worth it. Since I had an IV during labor they just put another gown on backwards so you have full coverage.

I was stuck with an IV 24/7 for 5 straight days. So, the only thing I was able to get on were hospital gowns. Next time I'm hoping to change because you instantly feel so much better when you feel like a person again.

I wore the gown for the first day, then switched to some comfy black yoga pants. I had a c-section though, so they weren't checking me "down below" though there was still heavy bleeding.
The gowns are so big and kept falling off my shoulders and it just felt so much better to shower and put on my own clothes.

I stayed in the hospital gown and wore a robe over it when I went out of my room. Honestly its not worth it to change. The hospital gown is most loose fitting and comfortable thing to wear and gives them easy access anytime they need to check you

i wore the hospital gown the whole time. didn't have much of a choice since i was hooked onto an IV.

I stayed in the hospital gown until I went home. But they were different than the typical ones. It was like a regular night gown but had snaps so I could breastfeed. Since I had an epidural I also had a catheter, well I was so swollen after they decided to leave the catheter in for 24 hours because they were afraid I wouldn't be able to go on my own. So that helped with my decision to stay in the gown provided even though I had brought my own clothes.

My son was born at night, so I stayed in a gown for the first day after, the second day I showered and put on some yoga pants and a comfy long sleeved t-shirt. The bleeding wasn't quite as ridiculous the second day, and they were done checking me by then. I was discharged at the end of the second day, but my son had to stay in for another couple days, so they let me stay in a room off the NICU for that time.
My robe was a complete lifesaver, so soft and comfy and familiar. I used it for extra warmth after getting dressed too, it was also nice to have the extra cover for nursing.

I changed into my own clothes the next day and felt great like that. I had bought a couple of cheap dark-coloured jersey dresses for 'pajamas' and those were great for feeling'dressed up' but still comfy. I was worried about bleeding too, but the hospital undies were great and you change the pad every pee.
Other days I wore yoga pants and a hoodie. (My hospital keeps u for 3 or 4 days ). I would change into pajamas after visiting hours were over but I felt great fully dressed when people visited.

I DESPISED the hospital gown. I wore maxi dresses for the 4 days I was there

I put on a nursing tank and comfy pants for guests on day 2. That gown was just too annoying and I needed some support for the girls so they wouldn't rub against it.
The nurses set me up with one of those pads they use to line beds with (not sure what they're called but they remind me of puppy pads) It stays folded so it fits in the hospital undergarments. Then, on top of that went two maxi pads. It was awkward to get on but so worth it once I was up and about and didn't want to worry about bleeding through everything.

I ended up wearing the hospital gown for my entire stay. I didn't want to mess up any of my clothes and the gown was easier to nurse in.

I wore the hospital gown, I had a c-section so I had to wear the compression boots and they were always checking my incision and bleeding.

I wore the hospital gown because of bleeding too. I had my own robe (BEST THING EVER) that I wrapped on top of my hospital gown. I would HIGHLY suggest bringing your own comfy robe!!

I had a c-section in the morning, so I wore the hospital gown until the next day when they took out the catheter and IV + let me shower. Then I switched to these: http://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=90625940150&MasterCategory_Id=MC16 ,
which were perfect for wearing with my c-section incision and for nursing. The nightgown was cute, it was made to nurse in, and the robe gave me coverage. I couldn't wear pants of any type for about a week, so pjs were out for me.

I didn't like the hospital gown either. I wore a tank style short night gown.

I wore the gown. I couldn't get out of bed without blacking out, so I had to stay in bed anyway. Then I had to get a transfusion, so I was hooked up to wires until after midnight the 2nd day. I left the day after that.

I bought new pajamas and a robe to make myself feel pretty afterwards.
I was kept for 5 days on IVs and being in my own clothes (and something that was new and pretty) made me feel human again.

i just wore the hospital gown. i had a c-section and just didn't want to put on pants until i had to lol and that's all i had packed, no gown of my own.

I wore the gown. I hurt too much to even get out of bed, so I didn't have to worry about people seeing my tush anyway.

I wore the gown. I brought a robe but didn't use it. The gown covered me fine. I'd be in bed when visitors came. I just figured it was easier to use the gown.

I only stayed in the hospital for 24 hours after giving birth so I didn't bother changing out of the hospital gown until I was going home. We also didnt have any visitors besides DH's parents, so I didn't feel like I needed to look good and didn't want to mess up my own clothes.

I had my c-section just after midnight, and changed into my own clothes after I showered in the morning (about 10-11 ish). I honestly felt 100 times better to have showered, done hair and makeup and be in my own clothes.
I kept it to black pants (yoga pants) and nursing tanks with cardigans, so nothing would get stained, and I had easy nursing access, was comfortable, and looked somewhat like my normal self. I had bought black cotton boy shorts to wear instead of the disposable hospital undies, but I did use their pads (though I didn't have a ton of bleeding since I was a c-section.
I also had nursing PJ's that I brought for at night.

I was in the hospital gown most of the time, but also took a gray motherhood maternity nursing nightgown that I wore. I did not use my bathrobe @ all.

I don't even remember changing into my own nightie it happened so soon after my section, the the next morning I washed up and put on comfy light baggy pj's. Once you're diligent with changing the monster pads you shouldn't ruin anything except underwear (c section, anyway), and I just bought lots of really cheap pairs, I wasn't going to mess about with regular disposable ones. I like my comfort!
