We've had a hard week or so around these parts. First of all, she's biting me almost every time (UGH) And she's reverting back to her old ways of not latching on and not staying latched when she does get on there. I thought she might be just getting more efficient at 6 months, but my breasts still feel completely full, are leaking, she's mad and starving 10 minutes later, and I'm pumping more than ever, so I'm hesitant to think that she's transferring well.

Hmm, how am I feeling right now...?
Well our baby is due in 8-10 weeks (I will be induced between 38 and 40 weeks due to GD) and to be honest I'm really anxious about it still. It's easily the part I'm dreading most - way more than labour! I know it's the best thing for my baby's health and has a lot of benefits to me too but.... well lets just say in my experience (friends' babies etc) breastfed babies develop much slower - they're too busy hanging off their mothers to learn and play - they are clingier and don't STTN. So while I know it's the right thing to do for my baby health wise, I'm just not sure how long I should do it for, you know? When do the negatives outweigh the positives?..... I just don't know what to do for the best.....
So yeah, right now, I'm pretty anxious about it. Perhaps if you ask this question again in a few more months I might have a super positive answer for you!!

Feeling alright this week. A couple of weeks ago she was popping off/screaming all the time and I wanted to stab myself and buy formula, ugh.

Biting, ugh! Poor mama.
I'm feeling lopsided. Two weeks ago LO gave up on my left breast. I'm pumping that breast three times a day (trying to find time to do two sessions). My right side is going great.
Now I just need to get LO to take a bottle so I can use this pumped milk.

Angry at my boobs, working and the pump. I'm at a around a four ounce deficit every day. Freezer stash is dwindling, so I'm going to have to start supplementing day care bottles with formula (about 75/25 bm/formula. If I were home all day, we wouldn't have to do it at all. Sigh.

I feel pretty good about it. I'm back at work and pumping sucks. I'd much rather breastfeed. She's nursing in all sorts of interesting positions. She's almost 8 months. She claws at me a bit but we manage.

@Cherrybee: just thought I'd put it out there that my LO is just over seven months old and EBF and she has eight teeth, pulls up into a standing position and has been commando crawling since six months so she definitely hasn't been slow with the development! Unfortunately we're still working on STTN (damn developmental milestones and teething) but not STTN is normal
As for me, still loving the breastfeeding especially now we're doing it pretty much pain free! Hooray for boobies!!

@highwire: pretty much in the same boat as you. Getting bit, popping off and rufusing to nurse. I'm totally over it. Sticking it out though. Might start pumping and giving more bottles for my own sanity though.

@Kemma: That's awesome!! Clever baby!! I know it's a small sample so hardly a scientific study but there are six babies in my life right now - four singletons and a set of twins. Three babies are breastfed and three are formula fed. ALL of the formula fed babies STTN and NONE of the breastfed babies do. Two of the breastfed babies are developing slower than the others (one isn't even sitting up at 5 months) - they just want to lie there and nurse while the other babies are playing around them. The twins are a really interesting example - one is breastfed and one is formula fed (wouldn't take to the breast for some reason). At 9 months old, the breastfed baby is clingy, whiny, refuses to play - she's only happy when she's on mum. Her sister is adventurous, happy and well rested.
I'm going to play it by ear - and I will continue to worry and obsess over it until I'm doing it and it all just works out fine.... then I will be like "Oh, I don't know why I was so worried!".

good! i'm just starting research for starting solids (R is 4.5 months) and i'm getting overwhelmed, so i want to stick with BM for a good long time! ha.

@allison: No, I mean like - at all. She's either asleep, nursing or crying to be nursed. You know how babies like to be propped up, looking around, being passed crunchy toys? But in all fairness, I know nothing about babies - I will be learning along with mine - so you've probably saved me a lot of unnecessary stress at 5 months when I wonder why mine isn't sitting up (and doing the ironing!). Thanks!

Still loving it at 11 months and getting sad at the thought of weaning in the not too distant future.
@Cherrybee: I'll add another experience to your sample size - LO has been EBF (never had a drop of formula) and has been a super easy, non-clingy baby. She's slept 12 hrs straight through the night since 10 weeks old and put herself on a feeding schedule of every 2 hrs nursing during the day and then no feedings overnight, so she definitely wasn't hanging off me all day. She's also hit her milestones perfectly on time (sitting up unassisted at 5 months is NOT the norm) so take heart, your small sample size is not necessarily an accurate picture of what it's going to be like!

I'm loving breastfeeding, but I just started pumping while returning to work part time and it is a pain. In. The. Butt. I hate pumping, and my hat truly goes off to EP mom's. You ladies are hard workers!
@allison: I'm glad you posted that because my little guy is 5 months tomorrow, and when I read the "not even sitting at 5 months" part, I almost started panic googling, haha.
@Cherrybee: Remember that anything within range is normal, and a baby who sits at the beginning of the age range won't necessarily be any more advanced later than a baby who sits at the end, so be careful with comparisons once your LO is here. They can really drive you crazy and make you worry for no reason. FWIW, I was also super nervous about bf while pregnant. Everyone I know IRL told me it was really hard, painful, etc. I had some hiccups early on (milk came late, had to supplement), but it was actually easier than I imagined and I love it now! And the twin comparison is compelling initially, but I doubt those differences are due to bf alone. It sounds like they had really different personalities from the outset.

@LittleFox: Oh Im so, so sorry. I engaged mouth (keyboard) before brain there. Didn't mean to scare anyone. I was just offloading my current probably ridiculous *worry* about breastfeeding. I know nothing about developmental milestones - I was just comparing specific babies (who I should know develop at different rates).

How I'm feeling right now... actually pretty chill! I'm 23 weeks and spent the first bit of my pregnancy really stressed out about it. Now I'm all "what will be will be" and am planning on doing a mixture of breast milk (as much as I can, since I had a breast reduction in the past) and formula. I will do all I can until it gets difficult and then will switch to formula full time.

I am feeling tired.
LO is one years old and she is in a phase where she wants to breastfeed constantly. ALL night. ALL day. I am getting so exhausted. My nipples feel raw and cracked. At this point I thought she would be wanting to nurse less. This mama is dying!

@BlueWolverine: Ha, I could have written the same thing! I'm so annoyed that my boobs won't produce more! I get 8-10oz while at work (pumping 3x) and need 16-20 to give to LO at daycare... I have no freezer stash, so I have to pump like crazy outside of work. So annoying!
I'm excited though because I only need to provide milk to daycare 3 more times before LO turns 6 months... I have the milk ready for one of those days, so that just means coming up with the milk two more times. I think I'm going to make it!!!!!! I still want to try my best to pump enough for her after than, but I do plan to start introducing some higher calorie solids to see if that helps take the pressure off me at all... if I just had to give her 15oz vs. 18-20, that would help so much!
@Cherrybee: just another data point, my LO is EBF and isn't whiny or clingy at all. She's the most good natured baby ever. She does wake up to eat once a night. These two articles suggest that it may not be in baby's best interest to STTN, so I'm trying to remember that at 3 am :):

Good! We've been so lucky and now that he's nursing every 4 hours during the day, it's so easy. If DH wasn't so gung ho about solids I'd probably wait longer, because I don't want to deal with solids poop
Lately he's been giving me the sweetest smiles while latched on before bed and it is so. freaking. cute.

I love nursing my son. I could do it all day if I had to.
DD is down to one nursing session a day. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. Just waiting for her to want to stop! -
Tired. I just want some sleep.
