Our crib mattress was given to us by my SIL, so I didn't really do any research for one. I don't think it's very comfortable for DD so I want to get a new one, but I have no idea what makes a good mattress. I'm amazed at how much the prices and reviews vary.
So what did you look at when deciding which one to get? Is a $2-300 mattress really *that* much better than a $100 one?

Ours was about $150. I asked the lady at bru, and she seemed very knowledgeable so I trusted her.

We're going with an organic one that's recommended by Baby Bargains (the Naturepedic Lightweight one). It seems to get really good reviews as well.

Mine was $80 from walmart but I saw the same mattress for over $100 on amazon and at babies r us. I bought it based on the number of coils and how firm it was. We have this mattress

We purchased the Moonlight Slumber Starlight Support Standard mattress.

We bought it from the same place we got our crib, and we got a discount for buying both. It was one of two crib mattresses they sold. Some of my favorite things about it are the welded seams, that it is Green Guard certified, and that it is made in the USA. LO isn't here yet to test it out, but it has great reviews.

I really wanted the Naturepedic one recommended above, but it was much more pricey in Canada. As much as i wanted an organic mattress, it was just too expensive. As a compromise, we got this one http://www.babynatura.com/mattress/two which is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial. It is also double-sided so she can continue to use it as a toddler, making the price easier to swallow.

We bought the Stearns and Foster baby dynasty eco foam mattress while we were at BRU buying our nursery furniture. It was well reviewed online, highly recommended by BRU sales associate, and we couldn't say no to the sale (got it for 189.99) retails anywhere from 249.99-299.99
