So as I get closer and closer to having this LO (40+5 today... omg come outttt baby lol) one thing I keep thinking/worrying about is knowing when to leave for the hospital. (I'm not in labor yet at all, unfortunately, but hoping to get some insight for when it hopefully happens SOON)
I'm seeing a midwife practice and my instructions are to call them when I get to 5-1-1 and we'll talk about when to go in. But I feel like there is probably going to be a bit of the decision left up to me because there is only so much they can tell me over the phone. And also we live about 25 min from the hospital (45+ in traffic) and I'm terrified of waiting too long and being stuck in traffic and freaking out about that. Of course being so far away also means I don't want to go to the hospital too early and get turned away only to have to come back a few hours early.
I guess I thought most people went in right around when they got to 5-1-1 but I read a ton of birth stories here last night and it sounds like a lot of people don't go in (or even call their docs/midwives!) until they are having contractions much closer than that.
So I guess my question is--- how did you know it was time to go in? What did your contractions look like at that point? And do you feel like it was the right time? Should you have gone earlier or later?
