I don't really want to search craigslist.
I can search our county's daycare registration listings but then it's like at least 100 listing of just names and phone numbers! Some of them have websites but only a few. I know there has to be cheaper in-home daycares than the centers but I have no idea how to find them.
I posted on FB asking for some and most people just recommended nannies or centers.
How did you find yours?

Initially, I searched online. Our state has a list of daycares that have met state certifications. That proved to be a pain though, so luckily, one of my moms coworkers gave us a recommendation!

word of mouth! our home daycare momma was actually a parent of former student of mine. we loooooooove her. she's amazing.

@Mrs. Cowgirl: that's kinda what I was hoping with the facebook question... no such luck 
quite honestly most people I'm friends with on FB either don't have kids, or were SAHMs that don't "believe in daycares" so I can only imagine what they thought learning I'm considering one I know my mom isn't fond of the idea at all.

so sorry...is there anywhere else you could post or ask? at church or at a local elementary school? sometimes schools will have lists of local home daycare...good luck!

I did a FB question, no good answer so I turned to kijiji and found our homecare there. She is awesome, accredited etc, just not super tech savvy.

I got a list from the City government department that works with daycares in the city where I live. It was divided into home daycares and centers by geographic location and size. Then the person that sent me the list gave me notes about the places she visited for her own kid and those she has spoken to over the phone. I ended up picking the one she sends her kid to. It's a large home daycare. I think max 12 kids w/ good adult/kid ratios. Love the caregivers, though wish all the germs would stay home!

@pregnantbee: ha. I hear ya! it's one reason alone I'm considering nanny over daycare! So many kids I know are just sick constantly.

@Mrs. Pen: I'm the same, I much prefer a website but I'm glad I took the leap. She is montesorri trained, as well as licensed ECE with police clearence etc and just decided to stay home after he little guy was born. It's the perfect setup.

I'm a SAHM but would never judge you for needing daycare and if I did need daycare I would definitely go the home daycare route. My sister is due at the end of February and will be going back to work after 6 weeks. She paid $100 for a year membership to care.com and found a great lady in her area that is a SAHM with 2 kids (1 in school, 1 at home) that is looking to make some extra $. Obviously they will need to try things out once the baby is actually here but so far, so good.
