DD1 is 18 months and hasn't been feeling well and has been super cranky and clingy. We were thinking about having my mom bring her to the hospital to meet DD2 but now I'm wondering if we should just wait to introduce them until we come home. Frankly I'm worried about a meltdown at the hospital.
What did you do? What would you recommend?

In that situation, I would wait. Especially if she might be sick.

I would wait and introduce them at home.
People recommended having the baby in a basinet, etc so that your LO can greet you first rather than seeing you with the baby.

In your situation, I'd wait until your oldest is feeling better.
We had my mom and dad bring DD1 to the hospital. It went very smoothly.

DS was 26 months when DD was born and there was a strict policy around visitors when she was born due to some concerns about flu, etc. He met her for the first time in person when we were on the way home from the hospital and picked him up at a friends where he had been playing for the morning. We also tried to Facetime while I was at the hospital but it ended up being pretty difficult for he and I because he was sad that I wasn't home.

We did not have LO1 (28 mo) come to the hospital because I was only there about 24 hours. My parents stayed with LO1. My parents took LO1 to daycare and then they came to the hospital. I think it was helpful that the grandparents had a chance to ooohh and ahh over the baby without LO1 seeing.
When we got home DH carried baby brother into the house in the car seat. The moment was all about LO1 meeting her brother. The neighbors made a welcome home sign and my in laws sent flowers so my LO was convinced it was a party to celebrate her becoming a big sister. We rolled with that and it worked well.

@bushelandapeck: Yeah, my mom mentioned facetime and I figured that would not be a good idea because then she would be sad we weren't there.

@MrsH: It was so much harder on he and I than I thought it would be. I wouldn't recommend it.

@MrsH: Not quite the same thing, but we went to a family wedding in Las Vegas when LO was 18 months. Face timing was HORRIBLE. She didn't understand why we weren't there and it made her super upset. I probably wouldn't do it. With LO #`1 being sick and cranky, I would also probably wait until you got home. Its not ideal, but 18m is a tough age.

We did it at the hospital - DD was in her bassinet and I was alone in the hospital bed. DH brought DS in and he sat with me on the bed - then DH brought over DD. At first he was less than impressed but then we got some sweet shots of him kissing her. Also when it was time to go home DH brought DS to the hospital so we could go home as a family 
If your LO is sick though I would wait and do the intro at home
