My LO was really frustrated with it but she figured it out after chewing and playing with it for a few days! Just keep offering it!

Before buying the zoli, I wanted to make sure that LO would even drink out of a straw, so I tried letting him drink out of a little plastic cup with a straw that I had cut short. I held the cup and straw and put it up to his mouth. At first he would suck up some water and let it run out of his mouth but he quickly got the hang of it in a couple of days. When I switched him to the zoli, he knew what to do right away.

I'm with @autumnlove: Just keep offering it. DS just started drinking out of a straw cup consistently after working on sippy cups for the past... oh, six months. We just have the cheap Playtex straw cups. When I was sure he would take water (and drink it instead of doing what @NerdBee: LO did), I finally gave him formula and milk in his straw cup. So far, so good! Just takes time.

I used a regular straw to teach him with. I held my finger over the top of the straw so some liquid was trapped in the straw and let him suck from the bottom of the straw. Once he started sucking on the bottom of the straw I would release my finger and let the water go into his mouth. Once he got the idea that he should suck on the straw, I put it back in the cup and let him suck from the top. It took just a few minutes for him to get it.

I blew through the straw into the cup so that the water would come up the straw. The I would offer it to her and the water would come right out. It took a couple days, but she got it pretty quickly.

We use the playtex cups. It clicked almost immediately for them once I wisened up and gave the cups in their high chairs.

@NerdBee: That's a great suggestion! I may try that tonight. It's so hard to tell with LO's zoli straw cups if she's dribbling water out of her mouth or if she's just drooled a lot from chewing the straw!

@kiddosc: We tried this and now he depends on us to put water in the straw and bring it up to his mouth. He's such a lazy baby. =)

I've been offering the Zoli a few months but not consistently and LO still seems to just chew on the straw - I think he gets some water inadvertently. I don't understand why he hasn't cuaght on since he's 9 months old.

It just took my LO time. I just kept offering it to her and it really took her a couple of months until she finally got it.

His pediatrician recommended using those juice boxes with the straw. Of course, we don't like giving juice to our kid. But we got one box, and squeezed the box while the straw was in his mouth. Once he saw that the juice came up the straw, he started to suck. Then we gave him the playtex sippy cup with straw, and he was a pro at it.

Consistency in offering was the main help. The Playtex cups that you can squeeze were really helpful too.

@mamabear57: How old is your LO?
We introduced our Zoli around 7 months and she basically just figured it out after biting on the straw for a few minutes

My son actually figured it on when we were flying and he was playing with the airline cup and coffee stirrer thing.. I think it was easier since its such a narrow tube so after that he had no problem

I used a juice box the first time to show her that liquid came out of a straw, squeezing it with less and less pressure so that she needed to suck to make it work. We've moved on to a squeezable straw cup now, although I think she enjoys blowing big wet raspberries with it than actually con aiming the water!

I just kept handing her one to play with, really, and she figured it out after a while.

I gave her the zoli filled with water when she was 7 months and five minutes later she was drinking out of it. She has been hooked ever since!
