This happens often in our house because when DH gets home from a trip, it's often later in the day after LO has gone to sleep. I just eat dinner with LO, and then have a glass of wine and chat to DH while he eats and catch up! Or make popcorn and snack on it while he eats if it is much later and I'm still hungry.

We typically eat dinner together as a family. On the nights that DH works till 9 I eat with the girls.

@Foodnerd81: yeah I eat a pretty big dinner but lately I don't have time while feeding dd2 as well. So I usually eat something later on and some nights I eat 2 dinners... Lol

I used to feed dd1 first when she was much younger then eat with DH or we ate after. But she's older now so it's important we sit down and eat as a family even if daddy isn't home.

It's just me and the kids for dinner and I eat with them, usually around 630. If I waited to eat until after they were in bed, it would be way too late!

I cook while they play or watch tv, and then we eat all at once. I sit at the big table, and they sit at their little child-sized table next to me. Most of the time, the tv is on because it keeps them sitting down and gives me a free moment to clean up after them and do the dishes.

Honestly, I grew up in a home where everyone ate together, you didn't get up until everyone was done, no phones or toys at the table, and definitely no food on the couch. And heaven forbid the tv be on! I always thought we would do dinner like that, too, until my DH started working nights. Now that that's the case for us, it's survival mode at dinner time.

We all eat together at the big table without the tv on on the 1-2 nights a week he's home for dinner.

It's just me and the girls for dinner every week night so I always eat with them.

We usually get home together around 6:30 and she going to bed 7:45/8. If dinner is something easy like leftovers, sometimes we'll eat right away, but it's usually rushed while chasing her around, etc (she eats around 5:30 because it's when she'll sit for dinner best). Most nights we eat after she goes down, and it kinda sucks because it's late, but I've gotten used to it.

LO is 3 and only recently have we started eating together. Like @mae said, shoveling in food in between corralling a toddler to eat isn't any fun for me, so we always are after she went down. Unfortunately, I'm also not down with eating at like 9pm and she kept pushing bedtime and the entire process so recently we've all started eating together, since LO doesn't require help/cleaning/etc while eating.

We always eat on the sofa and watch TV or a movie, lol the dining room table is only used when people come over!

He gets a snack/part of dinner in the high chair while I am cooking or cleaning up the kitchen, then we come in the living room to eat our dinner. He then gravitates between playing and coming over to accept bites from our plates.

@Pirouette: that pretty much describes our dinnertime routine, too. It bothers me that we don't do family dinners as much as I'd like -- it's pretty much limited to weekends right now -- but once DD is able to wait a little longer to eat and have a later bedtime, we'll try harder to make it work.

We do dinner as a family every night at the table. Usually around 5:30. There is the odd night were one of us isn't home for dinner or is late so the other eats with DS.

Most of the time the 3 of us have dinner together around 6 when Dh gets home. If I'm making something I know she won't eat, or if Dh and I want to get take out, I'll make her something easy like scrambled eggs and we eat after she goes to bed. That usually happens 1-2x a week

We eat as a family almost every night (unless DH has to work late or something). We eat around 6:30/7. Sometimes I wish DH and I ate dinner after the LOs go to bed since it's just so much more peaceful, but I don't want to stretch dinner out over hours and hours and I often have work to do in the evening.

We usually eat dinner together around 630/7 just before ds1'sbedtime, unless Dh has a late night at work.

We try to all eat together at the table, on a good day around 7 or 7:30. LO goes to bed (again, on a good day!) around 9 or 9:30. Sometimes this is hard for me because I just want to lie down on the couch and watch TV like we used to do!

We used to have dinner after Xander went to bed because we'd get home and he'd be starving and I'd need to make his dinner immediately and wouldn't have time to get ours ready. But now he's able to wait longer for dinner, so we've been able to eat together as a family. It's sooooo much nicer!! And now after the kids go to bed, we can relax instead of cooking dinner and eating ourselves.

DH works until 8:30, so right now I sit with E when he eats at about 6:30. He either gets leftovers or something quick I make for him. Then I make dinner for DH and I after E goes to bed and eat with DH at like 9. I'm not a fan of the arrangement, since a lot of my night gets eaten up with preparing food. I think it won't be long until I switch to cooking early and eating with E and then DH will have to do leftovers.

We eat together around 6ish on the days DH works he will be get getting home around 7 so me and DD will eat and he will eat when he gets home!

I tried to eat with her during the week. But lately we get home around 5:15 and she asks for dinner. So I reheat up something for her quick. DH and I try and do family dinners with her on Sat and Sun. But it depends on all we have going on. But she usually can wait till 7 to eat on those night cause we can give her a small snack 430ish to hold her off till then. DH and I both don't like eating at 530/600.

DH picks DS up at 5:30ish and then we try to eat around 6. We all eat together as a family at the table. Usually we're hungry by then and I have no energy for preparing a dinner for DS and then eating after he goes to bed. Usually when he's in bed we watch some tv and chill out and go to sleep ourselves.

We all get home by 5:30 and I usually prepare dinner while my husband and son play outside. Then we eat together and have family time with all three of us. I'm very grateful for that. My son goes to bed early, before 7 every night so when one of us works late we may not see him so I'm glad it's not often.
