I don't feel comfortable nursing in public without adequate cover. Thankfully Wagon Sr. was almost always with me, so if the nursing cover wasn't doing the trick, he'd just hold a blanket up in front of us.

I know I don't really flinch when I see it now (unless there is MAJOR boob exposed) but it did make me a little uncomfortable before becoming a nursing mom!

I think the discomfort comes more in feeling like you have to avert your eyes or be creepy. Now that I nurse though I feel a lot less uncomfy about it and realize a friendly smile is not going to be taken as some weirdo leering.

As a BFing mom, I dont do it. Im just not comfortable enough. The closest Ive gotten is to pull my shirt up, but the tank that I was wearing underneath down. So no "coveR" per-se, but nothing was showing. That being said, It doesnt bother me anymore. Truth be told, I havent seen anyone BF without a cover in public since Ive been BFing, but if I did, I dont think Id bat an eye.

I don't mind, I usually never notice. DH always gets a little uncomfortable. He was looking over at a newborn baby at the park the other day and realized there was a boob in its mouth haha. He felt like a weirdo for looking at the baby after that.

I try to be discrete about it or go somewhere private but if I was on a plane with my hungry baby, I'd do the same thing.

I think "wow, she's brave!" and leave it at that. I couldn't do it... I'm having a hard time adjusting to my boobs since pregnant, so I can't imagine being more exposed than a v-neck shirt. I'm sure I'll figure something out if I can't always have my nursing cover with me!

i think, 'way to go mama!' i don't have a LO yet, so i can't say how comfortable i'll be while breastfeeding.

i think a major part of people's discomfort seeing women nurse comes from the fact that it's not common. i think as long as you aren't taking your top and bra off entirely and making a spectacle of yourself, it's a good thing for people to see it and for it to become the normal natural thing it should be. discomfort isn't always a BAD thing for people, growth can be uncomfortable!

I want to run up and give them a high five! But I don't because they'd probably think I was weird. So I give them a mental high five.

Depends when and where. But I try to cover up as much as I can.

I've never actually seen a nursing mom in public, cover or without.

It does make me a little uncomfortable in public, I think a cover is necessary, unless you are in a private nursing room!

I think it's a non-issue. Using a cover is a personal choice and I respect whatever choice a woman would make. I feel that my comfort/discomfort with someone else's choice is irrelevant.

Hmm, I honestly will feel a little weirded out if someone is nursing without a cover. It doesn't bother me at all to see someone nursing in public who is covered for the most part, just because I know that it would offend/make other people uncomfortable if they weren't covered.

I send her a mental, "You go girl!"

Not something I love to do, but can if I need to. I'm finally getting to the point where I can breastfeed in front of my IL's and feel fine about it. I aim for baggier shirts that will cover easier, that is for sure!

It doesn't bother me in the least. I'm very used to it from the years I spent overseas, where women would often just take off their shirt entirely to nurse.
When I see it here though, I usually think "Good for you!"

Using a cover, I have no issue with but I have seen women completely whip their boob out and expose everything and it does make me uncomfortable.

That being said, if you are discreet and I can't see anything... meh.

I think more power to them but I tend to look away.

@Mrs. Jacks: ditto! I rarely rarely nursed in public but I used a cover when I did. I LOVE when I see women who are confident enough to do it & I get defensive for them when people are "grossed out"

Even though I've done it myself, I still look away..makes me a bit uncomfortable although it shouldn't.

An interesting thing about Sweden (at least around these parts) is that women seem really comfortable breastfeeding in public - uncovered! I feel uncomfortable seeing it and always avert by eyes but it seems as though no one else is fazed by it.

Even in all the pamphlets I've been getting about pregnancy, the cover shows a smiling baby next to a fully exposed nipple. You flip the pages and it shows moms breastfeeding twins, women bare everywhere. It's kind of nice that it's the norm but as an American, I'm just not used to it yet.
