I feel like I never know when/if LO is hungry. For one, she's a sucker so she's always sucking on her hand. And she's fussy so she's often crying. And she likes to use me as a paci Usually if shes crying and she hasn't fed in a while I'll nurse her. But I never know if that's why she was crying. And I don't want to train her that she'll get the boob every time she cries. Or maybe I should just give In and give it to her if it stops her crying.

I usually lightly stroke her cheek to see if she'll turn towards it with her mouth open. I do this on both sides. I do feed her when she's fussy and nothing helps even if it's soon after a feeding.

I gave in to DS when he was fussy... "comfort" nursing bonded us more than just meal time did. With DD, it's pretty obvious, she'll suck her pacifier harder but after a few minutes she'll start to cry once she realizes she's not getting milk. Or she'll suck her hands. 3-4 hours is the schedule we stick to so sometimes I'll try to calm her in other ways if she hasn't reached 3 hours between feedings and is fussy.

LO will open and close her mouth a bunch of times, slowly - and usually do it more if I'm looking at her. She does this most obviously when she wakes up hungry, but if I pay attention I'll see her do it when she is awake and gets hungry too...before the crying starts. Her "hungry" cry also sounds different from her normal fussy cry.0
