We're in the process of transitioning to whole milk. It's not going well so far. How long did it take your lo to get used to whole milk?

It took around 3 months for her to drink 10-12 ounces a day.
When we first started she drank an ounce(ish) at every meal

She drank it no problem out of a bottle. It was a challenge when we tried to switch to a sippy. But then I tried straw cups and she started drinking a lot again.

We went cold turkey. The first day wasn't good, but she was gulping it down by day 2.

We also went cold turkey. She took small sips the first few days but started to drink larger amounts by the 3rd or 4th day.

He's had no problem with milk from the bottle or sippy....I actually think he prefers it. But we slowly transitioned over a 3-4 weeks

My son was fine with it. No time at all! But my little girl is much pickier so we'll see in a few months with her!

I mixed formula and whole milk for a week. He didn't have any problems so we gave him whole milk after that. Good luck!

About a month. We went 1/4 milk 3/4 formula for 1 week then 1/2 and half for a little more than a week, then 3/4 milk 1/4 formula for the remainder. now we have a baby that drinks just milk!

Maybe 2.5 weeks. At 12 months she was nursing 2x a day and drinking water out of a straw cup. We offered a straw cup of milk with meals and started with 90% water 10% milk for a few days, then increased the milk every few days. We tried to go all whole milk but she did not like it but soon enough she was drinking whole milk with no problem.

2 weeks. She drinks it from a bottle and straw cup. For some reason she won't tolerate it in a sippy though lol

We had no problems. Just one day took the bottle away and put cow milk in the sippy cup, and he was fine. I mixed in 4oz or so of breast milk (1 bag from my freezer stash) each day until it was gone though. I think it helped that X was breastfed to 12.5 months, so we switched at the same time he weaned himself from nursing. He was just ready for something new.

We went cold turkey. I couldn't wait to stop buying $10 bottles of formula, so as soon as the ped. said it was ok to switch, it was done. He takes anything out of a bottle, and is adjusting to taking it out of a sippy still (3 weeks later), since he'd only had water in a sippy at that point.

Immediately. Actually he had his first taste of whole milk at daycare at 11.5 months. He gobbled it down and was a fan since. I am so relieved because he wasn't a big fan of water or formula (I'd make a 5 oz bottle and he'd drink 1 oz), and he wouldn't drink Pediasure.
Now he has 3 cups of milk a day (breakfast, lunch, before bedtime), 3-6 oz each.

@Mrs. Jacks: do you think that's the best way to go- mix it with formula or breastmilk so they get used to the taste before just giving them a cup of just milk? I wonder if that would help her adjust better since she doesn't seem to keen on the milk right now...

@mediagirl: I don't know that there is a right way, but given that my daughter wanted nothing to do with milk, it seemed like a decent route.

@mediagirl: How's it going? I gave B bottles of whole milk today and he HATES it. i think I may try at Mrs. Jacks approach.

So we did formula mixed with milk. Started with 1oz formula/4oz milk for a few days. Then 2oz/3oz for a few days and now we will be at 1oz/4oz starting tomorrow.
She drinks milk from her take & toss at meals and on Sunday I gave her a bottle of whole milk while we were at the mall.
After we're fully 5oz of milk in bottles I plan to switch to cups.

@littlek: it's going well. We're still doing half and half because I have so much breastmilk to use up. We are off bottles completely because she rejected them while she was sick so now it's half and half in sippy cups. She is getting about 8oz of milk that way per day and nursing the other times (3+ times a day still).

hmmm i don't know if there is a difference with respect to going from bm to cow's milk vs. formula to cow's milk.
we did the mixing thing for about a week (i didn't measure, about half half though i think) and then just stopped cold turkey when we ran out of formula. i don't think he even noticed!
