How long do you/ did you plan to BF?

My goal was a year. At 11 months he was no longer interested and wouldn't sit still (by then he had been walking for a while and was interested in everything except sitting with me).

I'm at 10 months and my goal has always been at least a year. Since I WOH, my plan is to pump until a year and then keep nursing until DS or I feel like it has been long enough. He is a boob monster, so it might be awhile...

I thought 12-15 mos (roughly) would be ideal. With my first, I made it to 13 mos. With my second, only made it to about 9 mos - no physical issues although my supply was not great. He just didn't care much about the boob (crazy baby! you are supposed to love boos, everybody knows that!) and was so distractible and uninterested that nursing was a major chore. I was missing out on so much time with my toddler that finally I called it quits and we were all happier. (Except my wallet - formula is expensive!)

I had no expectations and didn't really want to breastfeed at all. Ending up loving it and nursed until 20 months.

I hope to breastfeed any future babies just as long if not longer.

My goal was to one year and then to see how it goes. LO just self weaned the day after she turned 20 months. I really never thought I'd go that long (almost everyone I know stops around a year, if not earlier). I also definitely wanted a few months between weaning and ttc #2. So, I'm really really happy with how it worked out and that I was able to let her self wean.

My goal has always been to let her self wean. We're at 2 years but I doubt we'll make it to 3.

My goal was a year, DS nursed for 19 months. He would have happily kept going but I was 4 months pregnant and needed the break!!

My initial goal with DD1 was six months, but it went really well for us and I loved it, so my goal quickly changed to 1 year. We made it to 13 months before I weaned due to being 12 weeks pregnant with DD2.

With DD2, I planned to BF for a year again and we made it without issue. I actually just weaned her last week at nearly 14 months old. I'm surprisingly really sad about it though and have been so tempted to resume the bedtime feed as I miss it! Then again though, it will be nice to have my body completely to myself, not pregnant or nursing, for the first time in 3.5 years!

@winniebee: 6 months is awesome! 3 months for me (the length of my maternity leave). That's the plan, anyway!

I planned to nurse at least a year and probably two. Right now LO still loves nursing at 18 months.

I may consider weaning when he turns two. I'd like to be done by 2.5.

    @regberadaisy: You're gonna go for #3??

Next goal is 6 mo... Then hopefully make it to a year but I'm happy as long as it's past 6 mo!

@Foodnerd81: that's so great! congrats i'm totally jealous and so happy for you, haha.

My goal was 6 months, and we're still going strong at 15 months. I'd like to wean her over the next few months. I'd love for her to be the one to do it, but i don't see it happening.

Hopefully 1 year, which will coincide with my return to work. I wonder if night-feedings will still continue though...

My goal for baby #2 is 6 months. A year would be great, but I also think I would want my body back by then. I really never LOVED nursing my first. It made me feel so "touched out".

My goal is 8 weeks, which is the length of my maternity leave. Im having anxiety over breastfeeding, so not going to put pressure on myself going into it. If pumpig at work works out, I'll make mini-goals, and go from there.

Today is lo's first birthday so I have officially made it to 1 year!!!!! My goal is to go as long as it works though I've dropped a pumping time and may cut another soon. I've combo fed since 2 months due to low supply so not ebf-- that took a lot of the pressure off and I'm really proud of myself for getting through that stressful time and really thriving with our bfing relationship

I nursed my first for 15 months, I hope to go as long or longer with number two. Three months in and it's going well.

I went into it with no plans and thought I would end up mostly formula feeding, possibly just BFing in the hospital or during maternity leave. It ended up working out pretty well and I'm still BFing now at 7 months. I'm pumping at work but in the process of pump weaning - down to one pump a day. Ideally in the next month we'd be down to nursing morning/evening and going through my freezer stash/combo feeding with formula. We'll see what happens! I'm so surprised we have made it this far and it's been a mostly positive experience - even pumping at work has not been that bad. I'm glad I kept an open mind about it!

@Pirouette: I actually thought of you when she dropped the last session! Really at 15 months I thought there was no way she would ever self wean. She was such a boob monster. I hope it goes as easily for you too!

My goal was at least 6 months, but hopefully a year, and she weaned on her own at 10.5 months. I hope to make it a year this time.

My goal was a year and we made it until 16 months. This time around, a year would be nice as well.

My original goal was 4 months so we're almost there! I think I might try for a year.

for DD1, we weaned around 15-16 months. My goal was just to survive, at first, then once things clicked I had an open-ended goal.

for DD2, at least the same time frame.

@Foodnerd81: aww thank you! You've definitely given me hope maybe she'll surprise me! She's been inconsistent about certain sessions but clinging like crazy to others.

LO will be 3 in June and still nursing morning and evening. I'm 10 weeks pregnant and hoping she weans soon as my supply dips, if not, I will wean her at 3.

1 year with DS, still going at 13 months with dd. I've been nursing for almost 3 years and I'm over it, so hopefully I can wean dd in the next few months.

My first goal before he was born was 6 months, shortly after birth, my goal became a year. At some point during the first year I thought maybe I'll go for 2 years.

We ultimately made it to 26 months and then I weaned after TTC for 2 months with no luck and a short LP. I'm not sure how much longer I would have gone. If TTC wasn't an issue I think my final goal would have been to let him self-wean, but also play it by ear too depending how long that went on for and how I was doing with it.

Hope to make it at least 6 months. Will definitely not go more than 12 months. But I am willing to see how it goes and not be hard on myself with expectations.

We hit 2 years last week.

It's totally up to her at this point... I'd be ok with stopping now, but I'm also ok if she nurses another year or two.

I had no expectations when I had dd, I figured if it worked for us then great, but if not then that was okay too. We ended up having a super easy time and I nursed until 13 months.

With the LO I'm currently pregnant with I would love to make it to at least a year again.

I was only able to EP for LO1 for a year. I had no expectations of being able to breastfeed LO2, and here we are at 17 months and nursing 3x a day. I'm kind of over it though. He is allergic to so many foods (8+), and I'm on the same diet restrictions. My original goal was to let him take the lead. I'll see how long I last before I want to quit.

I'm hoping for a year, but at least 6 months. We had a rough start, but now at 2 months in it's a lot easier!

We are at 1 year next week. My plan was to try to do 6mo first and go from there. Ideally I wanted 1 year but I know things don't always work out so I was trying to prepare for that. I am not ready to wean yet so I will leave it up to her otherwise I will re-assess in 3mo.

With my first I didn't really have expectations, so it was 6 months, then a year, then 18 months, then whenever he wants. Weaned at 3. With my second I was hoping for at least two years and here we are so now whatever happens is fine.

I plan the breastfeed for a year and then start weaning. I didn't have any problems bfing with Lucas or pumping after he refused to eat, but it felt so good to have my body back again.

I'm hoping to make it to 6 months, my first daughter I had to exclusively pump and only lasted 10 weeks before switching to formula.

We've made it 11 months so far, and I will start to wean after her first birthday, slowly. I'm ready to get my body back. I think she'll be ready though, as she's very distracted while nursing now.

I EPed for N for 9-10 months. I am still nursing E at 13 months old. I am planning on nursing until at least 15 months. We shall see I guess.
