Before I had L, i just went by what my sister and one friend had done - minimum of 6 months, then wean off. and even in the baby courses i took at the hospital, they said it was recommended to EBF for 6 months. So I assumed that's what everyone did and what I was "supposed" to do. In fact, i thought i was supposed to switch to formula that point because my friends had, lol. clearly, i pretty clueless about what i "had" to do.
Anyway, after L was born, I decided I would BF for my whole mat leave (one year), and then I realized I could pump when I go back to work and basically BF until he is ready to have regular (cow's) milk and skip formula altogether! So that is my plan now. I am not sure how long that will be, but I am guessing about a 18 months.......and i will say, that is my plan NOW, i know i could/might change my mind later down the road. I guess we'll see.
(side note: i have nothing against formula, just seems easier to keep doing what i am doing as long as i am able to do it and it's no longer necessary - it will save me having to figure out which formula to buy, how to prepare it and how much to give!).
Just curious what most people do/have decided to do.
