I'm noticing some changes after I've introduced solid foods. How long per session does your baby nurse? How many times a day? Did their nursing habits change after introducing solids?

She nursed about 5-6x, including 1-2x overnight. I wouldn't say she nursed for less time until about 8/9 months--then all of a sudden it was 4x a day for like 5-8 min at a time.

@pachamama: well I'm combo feeding now and trying to slowly wean (mspi baby) but he takes 3 bottles a day, 6 oz each, and I nurse three times. Morning, night and once over night. He still nurses about 10-15 minutes. And both sides usually.

I didn't see a big decrease in the amount she nursed until 9 months. At six it was still 6+ times a day. Now at 9 months she nurses 5x a day and once over night. Her sessions are really short except for the one before bed.

Solids didn't impact her feeding at that age and still don't as she eats barely any at 9 months. At that age she was between 5-6 feedings per day and none through the night as she wasn't waking up. She nursed for maybe 10 minutes each time. She has only recently strayed lengthening her nursing sessions sometimes.

I saw a big change around 5-6 months. Ezra went from 20min 5x a day to 10min 4x a day. Around 7months he was eating 3 solid food meals with me.

Nurses for about 20-25min, both sides, 5x a day.
Used to be 30min, 1 or 2 sides, 6-7 times a day. Started changing around 5 months and I don't think it was related to solids.

@Mrs. Pickle: Short, like 5-10 mins a side? I give him both sides and he went from a good 15 mins a side to 6-10. Sometimes more. Now that I think about it, that sounds ok but he's grunting and groaning and pulling off me constantly, like either he's angry or just not that hungry.

@pachamama: she's nursed one side per session since day one. She nurses for about 5 minutes now. At night it's closer to 20 minutes.

At that age, DS2 nursed for 5 mins (one side only) every 3 hours including overnight! He ate a lot of solids starting at 6m but also still spit up a ton, which I partially attribute to over feeding. I feel like he Didn't space out feedings until 9-10 months and suddenly by 11 we were down to 4x.

I've mentioned before we have some similarities. G is 7.5 months and she nursed every 2-3 hours usually, though can space them out because of naps or being busy. Each session varies a lot though- like this evening she nursed for less than three minutes and was done, but normal is probably like 6 minutes. At night it's longer, probably 10-15 minutes of real nursing then she will comfort nurse for longer. But she gets really distracted if anything else is going on. She has only nursed on one side since the beginning, as I've had an over supply this time. I also think my letdown is pretty fast so she probably gets a lot in those first couple minutes.
Nursing seems kind of unaffected by solids, like she will happily do one right after the other.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, he will eat solids right after nursing and vice versa! I do try to nurse first. Your LO sounds similar to mine. I'm thinking he's just more efficient and nurses for shorter these days.
