I track with baby connect and it is interesting to see the day to day totals. How old is your LO and how many hrs a day do they nurse?

In the beginning it was like 8-10 hours a day!
Now at 13mo its about an hour (10min a feeding)

Between 4 and 6.5 hours a day. I'm really curious if this is normal at 10 weeks!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@grizz: At that age, we were more than 4 hours a day!
Now at 5 months and him in daycare full time, it's more like 2 hours tops. Weekends are around 3 hours I think.

I think at 7 months he nurses 1-1.5 hours? I never track, but our sessions don't last long.

I don't track but until 2- 2.5 months it was A LOT. He was a slow eater! Now he nurses for 10 minutes tops. So.. an hour?
ETA- sorry he is just about 5 months

I was just thinking about this. I would say 4-5 hours? He nurses for about 30 minutes about 8-9 times a day. He's 6 weeks old.

My LO would be on the boob all day if I let him. We use the football hold and I think he just loves sleeping under a boob lol. I would guesstimate an hour on weekdays and 3+ on weekends.

Are you counting beginning to end of a session or just active on the boob time? C takes a lot of breaks but actual on the boob time is like 5-6 hours. Just based on beginning to end of a session, 10 hours? She's a slow eater, 10 days old n

My LO has always been a quick little nurser. Even when I was home on maternity leave the first few month, it was only 45 minutes to 1.5 hours a day (even at 8x per day). Now she's 8.5 months old and in daycare so it's probably down to 20 minute a day.

11 weeks old and 3-4 hours a day. Her sessions are pretty reasonable except at night! I think she's sleepy and she takes about 40 minutes around 4AM. The remaining sessions Mac out around 20-25 minutes. My LC promised she'll get more efficient. I'm waiting!

Anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5 hours a day. Now that she has been napping well, more days are closer to 3.5. My LO will be 11 weeks tomorrow.

For the first two to three months, he took an hour to nurse and he was nursing every two to three hours...so it was a LOT, probably 8-10 hours a day.
He's six months now and nurses for 20 minutes at a time, six times a day, so about two hours.
When I was in the thick of it, I thought it would be like that forever, but now I kind of miss those days!

my LO is 3 weeks old. I keep track using an app and my average actively-on-the-boob time for a day is 4.5 hours. That doesn't include when she's just chillin' or sleeping with my boob in her mouth or using it to soothe.
The other day was one of those growth-spurt type of days and she was on for nearly 6 hours.

Just about 6 months and about 4 hrs a day. I never thought of it that way!

4 weeks old and approx 3 - 4 hours a day. Is that normal? Haha seems low, but he's gaining well.

Very interesting responses! Up until a week or so ago, we were averaging 3-4 hours, now it is more like 1.5-2, at 10 weeks old. I feel like that is so short! He is gaining really well, has plenty of dirty and wet dipes, and when I try to make a session longer after burping when he unlatches, he gets very upset and cries. I have been actively trying to up my supply with brewer's yeast, oatmeal, etc., so perhaps my milk flow has just gotten stronger? I have also done weighted feeds (before and after) and it is about 3 oz each time, so I guess I should just trust that he is doing his thing...

@.twist.: I was worried about this too--I think as long as LO is gaining and having proper output, we should be thankful for the lower cumulative hours!

for the first 2-3 months it was about 8 hours a day nursing. and then another however many hours bottle feeding formula after each session
my supply better be sufficient this time around because LO#1 is not gonna wait around for that many hours a day while i nurse LO#2!!

@grizz: YES! I remember DH coming home one day and telling him that I have a full time job - feeding the baby. It was at least 8 hours a day.
Admittedly I had a fussy baby who nursed a lot because that always calmed him down.

@sotofamilia: isn't it crazy that when you're in it you think it will mever end! it really seems like forever but in reality it flies by!

@littlebittyhouse: totally! That was true of the whole newborn stage for me - it was so SO hard while I was in it, and now I look at him and go where did my little baby go?! I love this stage we're in now, but I went to visit my friend's newborn baby and I have to admit, I got a little nostalgic...

@maybebaby: LO is six weeks old and her sessions equal out to approximately 2.5 hours a day unless she's going through a growth spurt.

My guy is 14 months. Nurses every 3 hours still for 5 minutes or less. So 40min.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
4.5 months old - we are around 1 hour a day, give or take. He is a snacker. Eats ~5 minutes, 12 times.

@.twist.: M is only a week old and probably only nurses around 3 hours/day. I have an overactive letdown so milk just pours into her little mouth and she guzzles it right down!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
When she was really little she was a SLOW nurser so it was like 8+ hrs/day. Now? Probably 3-3.5 hours/day.
ETA: She's 15 weeks

@maybebaby: it sounds like your milk is just coming out faster and he's eating faster. As someone who is still feeding for what feels like hours at a time, I say enjoy it if he's gaining and pooping like he should!!
Also it's SO great to hear that this all day feeding is short term. My nips will be happy when we get there.

@lawbee11: I missed your birth bc I don't see gold posts on my phone (and I'm always on hb on my phone while nursing)- congrats!! I read through the birth in progress thread today and was super happy for you!

LO is 10 months and the only thing I still track on baby connect is nursing. Over the last 10 months, I have nursed 550 hours, that's almost 23 entire DAYS of nursing!!! We are down to just morning and before bed nursing now though, so about 45 minutes a day.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@lawbee11: I think this might be our case as well. I guess that's good!
persimmon / 1147 posts
At almost a year old I would say cumulatively 30 to 45 minutes a day. She is quick! Sometimes I miss the quiet time!
