I pay $1060 a month for a six month old. this doesn't not include formula, or lunch. We also supply our own diapers and wipes. We're in Fairfax County, VA and this is rather low cost for our area. It's a home daycare.

My situation is different because I live in Austria and daycare is heavily subsidized. Full time this fall for DS will cost the equivalent of about $300/month with food included.
When we were in NYC we were looking at $2200-2400/month. I stopped working because after taxes and daycare, I would have only had a few hundred dollars left every month.
I agree with @looch, look at what it does to your take home pay (or DH's) to decide if it is reasonable/worth it.

Urban area in Central Texas - we were paying 1260, got upset with that day care and are now paying a nanny $300 per week for 11a-5pm, will start new day care at end of August for $905 per month. Wish I could afford the nanny full time.

I am part time so we only need care for 16 hours a week. Child care is 1/3 of my income, or 10% of our joint income.

I pay $916 for one infant in a center 5 days/week. In-home rates we found ranged from $125-$200/week.

We live in NYC and are very fortunate to have found a wonderful nanny who is $600 a month and our DD goes to day care part time and its $400 so we pay $1000 a month for the two. If we put DD in full time it is $900 a month.
We were quoted about 1800 a month for full time daycare with extended care.

The cheapest we have here is $200/wk for babies up to a year old and $175/wk for babies 12+ months (and then it gets cheaper the older they get).

We pay 150$ a week so 600$ a month.
Government covers roughly 470$ of that so our out of pocket is 130$ a month.

We pay between $75-$100/week, I think the lowest on here so far! lol!

We paid between $1000-1200 for one at a daycare center (started out more expensive and got less as she got older). We currently pay a private sitter $1000 to watch both kids (3yo and 10.5m).

@Meggo5: whoa, what an amazing price! How did you find this?
we are looking at $2400 per month, we live in NYC.

We pay $808/month, which is really reasonable compared to most daycares in the area. We live in a higher cost of living area - Orange County, CA.

$270 a week for an infant in Northern CO, so that's about $1080 a month or $12,960 a year.

No kids yet, but the local daycare here would be $807/month. We live in a small town with a fairly high cost of living, but day care seems pretty reasonable to me! In the city where we moved from it's double.
ETA: the price is the same for all ages... they don't take kids under 16 months.

We pay $115/week, so it becomes between $460-575 depending on the month. We have extremely low in home daycare, almost unheard of in our area, we got lucky because not only is she cheap but she's amazing and like family!

Woah, prices vary so much! We're looking at day care for our 13 month old now (just a couple of mornings per week, for a couple of hours), mainly for socialization and we're looking at $95 per day, not including food. We won't pay that as she won't be there all day, but it would still work out to over $2000 per month.

Our daycare is $900/month for 3 days a week. When LO was in fulltime, it was $1400. I agree with others who have said to take a long view; daycare is only 4-5 years max (and get cheaper once your LO isn't an infant). It isn't just about straight take home - daycare = net; it's health insurance costs of having to be added to your spouse's plan, lost retirement savings, and the time out of the workforce. Our workforce is getting leaner and leaner; leaving voluntarily for years never looks good.

@Mrs. High Heels: I was looking for you to respond since I am an OC girl as well. I was relieved to see you said $800 rather than $1600 like I am seeing others talk about. Gees... Childcare is so so much!

I'm in Baltimore and will be paying $140/week for a family daycare, which is about average here for that situation. Infant rates at centers go from $1100-$1700/month, which is INSANE! Good luck with your decision.
