When our son starts public K in a year we will be saving $13,000 a year. WHAT?! I'm going to try and pretend like the money doesn't exist and put it right into his college fund. Man, that is a lot of money. Can't wait!

If I do preschool only, $8,800 per year (we still have to pay for camp in the summer).
ETA: I will still have to spend about $2300 for 6-8 weeks of camp in the summer.

It will save me about $200/week when school is in session since our daycare is $240/week and after care at the public school is $40/week. Assuming 36 school weeks/year that's $7,200. I assume summer camps, school vacation care, etc will probably work out to pretty equivalent to current day care costs.

@winniebee: I dont think we are doing public school, but if we did, it would save us a whopping $20,000 from current day care costs minus whatever a summer nanny/camps would be. So maybe $15,000??

As of right now, about 7k a year. But we are upping DD's hours/days at daycare next year when my maternity leave with DD2 is over, so it will be more! But then I'd still be paying for DD2...

Daycare tuition is $18k, so assuming a few thousand over the course of the year for after school and summer care, around $13k.

And I should say that after my second goes, we'll be saving $20,000 a year. Except we may have another, and then there's a cost with that.

Our kids are only in part-time, so we would save $9,000 BUT we have to pay for before care, after care, and summer care so we actually probably won't save much if any money!

Well, we currently pay $10,500/yr for a 4 year old. We will probably pay half of that for after care and summer camps. So, $5,000.

I'm not sure what we will be doing for before/after care or summer care, but I'm guessing we will save around 6K (we have cheap daycare currently.)

If we could put him in public school and not need after school care - $25,000. But he will likely go to private and need after school so it will be a wash.

We'll save between $8-12k/year, depending on whether we go public or private. I wouldn't even consider private except that our zoned public school is funded for 26 kindergarteners/class -- and this year at one point thought they were going to have 30/class. Either just seems like way too many. First world problems, I know.

Similar - $13.5k. We will probably still need aftercare in elementary though.

Probably around $1000 during months that school is in session! I'm sure we will also sign up for some activities so that might eat into the savings.

My older LO starts public pre-k in September, but it's not saving us much at all. School is only 8:30-2:30 with all kinds of half days and holidays and since DH and I both work full time, we need before care/after care/ holiday care.
I guess before we were paying something like 3800/month in childcare and now we'll be paying 3k a month. So, an $800 savings per month--I mean, hey I'll take it, but it's not as much as I'd like.

We'll gross back over $15k a year, but I don't know how much aftercare will be and summer camps or a PT nanny to cover those sorts of things, so I have no idea how much we will net as savings. Still, it will be awesome to get a big chunk back!!
