With my 1st two kiddos I sanitize the pump before first use and then every now and then. I notices that the medela pump instructions say they should be sanitized once a day which seems a lot to me. Do you sanitize every day?

Definitely not. Maybe every couple of days?
Though running through the dishwasher counts as sanitizing so maybe it did end up being every day!

The dishwasher is really hot, so that's it.
When we travel, I don't trust handwashing so I prefer to use the microwave steam bags.

We pretty much did it every day with the microwave bags. They got pretty hot so I assume that did the trick.

Thanks everyone, I'm the opposite and dont trust the dishwasher for bottles and pump parts. I usually bring water to a boil on the stovetop I need to try out those microwave bags

Uhhh once when we first started using them with this baby?! With our first who was a preemie I believe we did it every day which seems insane now but it made sense at the time.

CDC says dishwasher is good for sterilizing! https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/hygiene/healthychildcare/infantfeeding/breastpump.html
But I also get it if you just don’t want to. The bags works well too.

Never. My pump parts were kept at work and I hand washed once a day.

@JJ2626: oh I definitely believe it, my dishwasher sanitize cycle is super hot. But yeah I just don't put pump parts in there.
@Mrs. Toad: oh thats interesting. I had never thought of leaving one pump set at work

With my first I did every couple of weeks. With my second I did once....I hand washed everything every day though. Sorry second child.

@Mrs. Toad: Preach! I only handwashed... #WorstMomEver? My daughter survived! However, had she been a preemie or had other health issues, I would have probably done things differently.

I either hand wash with the bottles or do microwave bag clean at the end of each day. In between pumping at work I stick the parts in the freezer or the fridge in a baggy.

We did daily more or less for both kids. By the 2nd kid I figured I didn't have to but it was just habitual!

I would use one set for a whole day, putting in the fridge in between, then everything was washed in the dishwasher on sanitize. Whatever made it easy was my motto.

@Miss Sarah: I sanitized once per child and that’s it! I also hand washed once per day of use. That was sufficient for me!
