What made you decide you and your LO were ready? What did you start off doing? How did it go? Any tips?
My LO is only 4 months old. I'm hoping to wait until she's 6 months to start. But I'm just curious and exited about this next milestone! I'm thinking of buying a baby food maker. Is that something you'd recommend?

I waited until 6 months. Charlie has a lifetime of eating solids... he could wait to start them!

We're waiting until 6 months per doctor's orders. They said it's better to wait due to allergies. And since I have no reason to believe she's starving and needs solids now, we'll wait. We'll talk to them about suggestions on what to start with at her 6 month apt.

We started at 4.5 months per doctor's suggestion. Didn't work out very well so we waited til 6 months. At almost 9 months she doesn't eat very well. She's in the >98th% for height so not too concerned yet.

Baby Bear is 3months. I want to start about 5 months. I don't think you need a special one, but I'm getting the Baby Bullet for Christmas. I like the dates on it b/c I can't remember much like I used to.LOL

We're waiting until 6 months as well as Liv is EBF. We have the Beaba Babycook and LOVE it. I started pureeing and freezing stuff already. Plus I make applesauce with it and spread it on washcloths and freeze them to help with Livs teething pain. Ive also heard great things about the Brezza

We were around 5.5 months once the doctor cleared it. I had the Beaba and it was good but I don't think it is necessary if you already have some kind of food processor.

Interesting responses. I'll discuss it w/ her doctor at her appointment on the 30th. I think it was smart to start early and freeze some stuff. But between the breast milk and her food, there won't be any room for our food so I probably won't start early. I wish we had one of those storage freezers.

we started at 5 months, on Mother's Day, for something fun to do. He was suuuuuuper fat and exclusively breastfed so the doc was like, sure! whatever you wanna do. I loved the baby food phase. It was so easy!
@BabyLove: we got a separate freezer when I started freezing my breastmilk stash.... and I could NOT live without it now!!! It's especially amazing when you stock up at Costco or get a 2 for 1 deal on things like gallons of ice cream. I also keep loaves of bread frozen in case we run out. We ordered it from homedepot.com and they delivered and set it up and everything... it's one of those chest freezers that you open from the top... and it was less than $200!!

Well we started giving her some baby cereal around 3 months and then more baby food around 4 months. Then at around 6 months she was sitting in her highchair eating things with her fingers.

We're waiting until 6months. LO is almost 5months and breastfeeding is FINALLY going flawlessly that I want to hold onto this phase as long as possible!

@Rubies- that's where I am. I'm so happy/relieved/proud that breastfeeding has been going so well that I really want to at least reach my 6 month goal. It was a struggle to make it work and now the idea of introducing solids is sad because it means a decrease in nursing.

I waited until my daughter was 6 months and even then she didn't like it, so we waited until she started showing interest in food (which was another month or so.) As soon as she started watching us eat/trying to get involved with meal time, solids went well. We never did cereal and just started with veggies and fruit because that's what our pediatrician suggested.

Did anyone start around 4 months because their kiddo seemed so hungry and not satisfied with just formula/breastmilk? We're running into what seems like this issue.

I started LO on solids at 4 months. There is so much conflicting info on when to start. We started with rice cereal and progressed from there. LO is a great eater. The latest thinking on allergies is actually that it is better to expose babies at an earlier age, unless there are family issues with them.

6 months for my first DD and a week prior to 6 months for my 2nd DD. I made homemade brown rice cereal... it was a cinch! Got the recipe from weelicious.

We started at 6 months with avocado, then organic brown rice cereal. I was influenced a lot by Dr. Greene who says baby's first food should be a "real" food and that regular rice cereal is just like giving them sugar. Who knows. Anyway, I remember being excited to start solids but at the same time, enjoy exclusive bfing. It's so convenient! - don't complicate your life before you need to!
