Up until about a week ago my toddler has been an awesome sleeper. We moved him to a full bed last September and he's always slept until about 7:30 and stayed in bed until I got him at 8. DH got the "brilliant" idea to teach him to get up in the middle of the night to tell us if he needs to potty. And now DS has been getting up at 5 or 6 am. I'm pregnant and tired all the time and I just can't take losing 2 hours of sleep a day.

Any tips on how to get him to stay in bed? I feel like we're kind of screwed now that he's started doing it, he's not going to have the impulse control to stay in his room. I told DH we should put a door knob cover on or monkey lock, and DH opposes the idea. I'm also not convinced it'll work great - I think he'll start yelling and crying and pulling on the door and I'm not sure I have it in me to just let him cry if he's that upset. I'm also considering a toddler clock, but again impulse control is not his strong suit.

Any other ideas? Should we try both the doorknob cover and the toddler clock?
