Hmmm, when LO was brand new, we would try tickling her feet, blowing gently on her face/tickling her ear/cheek when she would fall asleep nursing, undressing her, and what always worked, holding her upright/lifting her up in the air.

when our LO was a new born , we would take off some layers of her clothing and then tickle her ears and feet. And also lifting her up and down

Depending on the age, when she was very wee and would fall to sleep eating it was naked time- diaper only and skin on skin. Now if I have to wake her up because we're going somewhere, usually I sing to her. She always smiles when I sing (even though I can't sing very well!)

@travelgirl1: Can she eat in her sleep? LO was a real bear to wake up during the day as a newborn; but she would eat in her sleep, so we would sometimes just let her sleep as much as she wanted during the day.

(my LO was nocturnal when she was born, and didn't self adjust for about 4 weeks; not sure if your LO is too?)
