I had an emergency c-section with my son, so I never really had a chance to think about it. I really didn't find it so bad overall, but I was just so glad to be done with labor. Now I'm two days out from a scheduled repeat c-section with my daughter and I'm terrified. How was your repeat c-section compared to your first?

Following just because I'm interested in what the future may bring if we have another. This is honestly one of the reasons on my list not to have another.

Easy.
I had two scheduled sections, and both were easy, but my second was a breeze.
I asked to leave the hospital a day early. I had her Tuesday morning and was home for dinner on Thursday.

The surgery was awesome and I was so happy and relaxed right afterwards. I felt an euphoric type high that I didn't get after LO 1.
Overall, it was positive but I started hemorraghing about an hour afterwards and it was a stressful next 24 hours.

Easy!
I was home in my own bed 29 hours later. Went on a two mile walk five days out. -
Mine was great, way easier than the emergency. I showed up early in the morning and it was totally relaxed. I didn't have any medical issues like I did the first time so I was able to hold my baby as soon as they were done sticking me up instead of four hours later like my first. It was a really positive experience for me.

Following as I'm having my second in the fall. My doctor tells me repeats are a breeze but of course she might just be keeping things positive.

I found my repeat to be so interesting. Because I had done it before and wasn't scared, I paid attention to everything. It was so cool.
But it also HURT. With the 1st I felt tugging and pulling. With the second I felt a lot pressure and pain. I kept telling them it hurt and they asked if it was pressure or pain. I don't know, but it hurt. I had to really focus and breathe through the pain.
I also found recovery to be harder. Probably because I had a 20 month old toddler at home. My stomach muscles were weaker much longer.

My repeat c-section for the twins was awesome and for some reason my recovery was so much easier. I think knowing what you're in for helps you to push yourself a bit more too.

Not sure why but recovery with my 2nd c/s (both planned) was so much easier!
I didn't have has much pain and was mobile much sooner!

My repeat section was awesome. It was scheduled for 9am. We arrived at the hospital at 7:30 for check in. They started on my spinal around 9:05. I had my daughter at 9:41a, and I was in recovery by 10:30, maybe earlier but I can't remember. It was great!

Mine was long because the surgeon took a lot of time to eliminate a keloid scar from my first, but it was a pretty easy recovery!

My second (scheduled, repeat) c-section was so much easier than my first (emergency) csection.
I think possibly because we knew what to expect and because it was routine: no rushing, everything was explained, the mood was certainly lighter than the last time.
No issues, so I got to hold him while they were stitching me back up and except for the brief time they took him to clean him up and weigh him, I held him the entire time I was in recovery... something I didn't get to do with my first.

following as I'm scheduled for my repeat June 25th.. my first was an emergency and still a good experience so I'm hoping for a little less craziness

@SeptMomma12: my older son was born via emergency c-section. I had terrible pain post surgery and the recovery took long as well. With my younger son, I knew what was coming so I was mentally prepared. I was able to walk around the maternity ward the evening after the surgery and didn't need much pain medication after I left the hospital. good luck, mama!

My second was easier in most ways than the first. I wasn't exhausted and sore from laboring beforehand like the 1st. I was more relaxed. I left the hospital earlier. I definitely felt better the 2nd time around. I had a tight stitch that was pulling, but the amount of pain I was in wasn't normal according to my doctor. My doctor said that often times the repeats are easier because you don't labor.

This might be silly, but I found it relaxing and oddly comforting: both of my spirals were strong, and my chest was numb. I didn't feel the rise and fall of my chest while breathing, and I have really bad anxiety so this was very strange and alarming to me!
Breathing through my nose helped. I could "feel" my inhale and exhales, so it was both a relaxation technique and a soothing sensation, but it also kept me occupied which meant my mind wasn't on "soooo what are they doing down there....?!"

Mine was much easier too. First was a non-elective, after water broke 48 hours before and labor never went anywhere- I was so pumped up with fluids and pitocin, etc, recovery was rough (but manageable)
2nd time- I still cried and got scared going in, but right when the baby came out I got skin to skin and was able to nurse while the dr. finished up. Much much different and recovery was easy. No swelling! -
@Mrs. Lion: I know this is an old post, but did your second scar heal better than your first?

@ChelseaRose: my first healed fine but was always raised. this time it's completely flat and much less noticable! I'm 6 months pp and it's still a little tender if I press hard or get a toddler kick while we are reading stories but overall it's healed well

@ChelseaRose: It might be worth asking your dr about. Im not sure it is the norm to repair a previous scar, so you may need to make a request for them to do it

@ChelseaRose: I was hoping with a better scar my second time too. It's slightly better but still not great. I think I just must scar easily. It's still slightly raised and a much darker color than my skin tone. I'm 15 months post partum.

@Mrs. Lion: I think the dr said that they at least remove the old scar so that they attach skin to skin and not to scar tissue.
@Mamasig: That's a bummer. I have another scar that's much bigger than I think it should be, so I hope that's not the case for me too.
