Sometimes I'd like to talk about what's going on in the world with my 5-year-old son over breakfast, but I'm realizing that we're starting from scratch! He doesn't really have any ways to learn about news other than talking to adults (parents, teachers, etc.).

News used to be more accessible for kids: I used to watch the local news on TV with my parents sometimes. Or we'd all sit down on Sunday morning and read the newspaper together. These days, I mostly find out about news by reading newspapers online, and from my Instagram feed. Those are all things my kids can't do yet! For now, I've been digging up articles in Wikipedia and telling him stories about them. Not the best solution... maybe we should watch some online videos together too. Trying to think of something that's topical, but still interesting for kids.

How will your kids find out about the news aka what's going on in the world?
