As an American, I was shocked to find out that my husband wouldn't be allowed to stay with us in the hospital beyond visiting hours after the birth. Fathers are not given any special status. They are the same as any visitor.

Well BBC2 Radio ran a story a couple of weeks ago about the NHS considering changing this and putting double beds in the recovery wards so husbands could stay. Hooray, I thought. Well, imagine my shock when many women called in to say it was a terrible idea! One woman even said "Only a man would come up with something so ridiculous!" She said that the last thing you want after giving birth is to have your husband any where near you...

This seemed really strange to me! Did you want to cuddle up with your hubs after birth or would you have been happy to send him away?
