After 6 nights of STTN, LO (7 months this week) had two really bad nights. She doesn't nap well, but we just slightly changed her schedule about 2-3 weeks ago and it had been going SO much better. She now goes down around 6-6:15pm and she was sleeping 12.5 hours. Before that she was going down earlier and would have one wakeup, but it was generally calm.
The last two nights, she woke up before midnight (8pm Saturday and 10pm Sunday) screaming. Not the usual "give me attention" cries, or the fussing while transitioning through different sleep phases. SCREAMING. Like run upstairs to make sure she's ok screaming. She has done this occasionally in the middle of the night before, but not that often. The last time this happened before was April 26 early AM.
Both times this week she got fully checked out by us (no temp, no real apparent reason to be crying) and a small bottle got her back down. Both nights of sleep were somewhat restless though.
I hate playing the guess-it game. We had a friend who was helping us with sleep training (wasn't charging us, or else we wouldn't be able to do it) but she just got diagnosed with a chronic (serious) illness so I am trying not to bother her. Plus, she was big on having me check things with her ped and making sure she's healthy before worrying about sleep- that's how we figured out she had reflux.
The reflux seemed to have gotten better, she was missing some doses and doing fine, and she ran out 4/28, and my insurance wouldn't let me refill at a store. So we decided to see how she would do (yes, I probably need to talk to the ped- but I know many kids grow out of it by this point) and she's had seemingly no issues- everything that pointed to it before is now gone. Plus, she wasn't on the meds since then- many of those nights she STTN.
She is eating foods- the only new food we introduced was mango on Saturday, but I purposely didn't give it to her yesterday in case that was the culprit (and she still had the episode.)
I tried researching night terrors to see if that could be it. Man, does the information on those vary!!! She does seem out of it whenthis is going on- she cries hard and it kind of jerks her head while she's crying (like with the rhythm of her crying) and she looked kind of glazed. Seems it would make sense with the whole "still asleep" part of night terrors. However last night I took her downstairs with me right away to make her a small bottle, and when she saw our pugs she smiled (they always make her smile and laugh) so I dunno? On Saturday when I tried to comfort her pre-bottle she kept putting her head on my shoulder to fall asleep then would snap it up- kind of like someone trying to stay awake.
When this happened on April 26th it took an hour or two but she tired herself out- even the bottle didn't help, she was up from about 3/3:30 til five.
She has her bottom two teeth, I don't see any real signs of more? DH swears she's drooling more- maybe? And chewing on things? I mean, she did that for months before the first teeth. She also didn't have an episodes like this that I could tie to teething with her first ones- the week or two before they popped through were rather uneventful.
I just don't know what to do here. If I call the ped (which I have to about the medicine for reflux and let them know we went off of it) what am I going to say? Oh she screams at night sometimes? It just seems like more of a mom-feeling that it's not just a typical wakeup based on knowing her cries. And I know that most sleep specialists aren't going to help if there's a potential health question. So I dunno. There are too many variables and I hate that.
Anyone have any experience/advice/insight? I'm desperate to understand what my girl is going through!
