We've lost power two years in a row due to hurricanes and have thrown away all of our fridge and freezer food. Right now we've got a couple things in a cooler and have to get ice every day. This has made me think ... what if I had a freezer stash? Yikes, not sure I would ever want to risk it!!

I would buy a small freezer and keep it in your DH's office at work. If there's a storm coming, store your stash there!

@Andrea: The most I had stored at one point was about 40 ounces! I barely made enough for M. I would cry and be so depressed if I had lost my small stash.
Can't imagine how devastated I'd feel if I lost 100+ ounces.. -
We had two storms this summer that knocked out our power for days... two weeks in a row. I have more than 100oz in the freezer... more like 150ish. Luckily, we have friends that had power and freezer space. If the whole town had lost it I would beg my neighbors who have a generator to put it in their freezer.

I was super worried about my freezer stash when Sandy hit. Luckily we didn't lose power or I would have lost >200 ounces. I told DH if we lost power he is not to go near the fridge cause I might lose it if he opened the freezer by accident. I may have threatened him lol.

My power has gone out a few times while I had a stash. Most of the times it came back on within a few hours but once I moved everything to my mom's freezer to be safe. I can't imagine what I would do if everyone around me lost power. Basically my worst nightmare.

I'd probably have just frozen water in every container I could find and stuck it in the freezer. That combined with not opening it would keep things cold for a long time.

I would be and plead to use someone's freezer r my stash! Thankfully I live in an area where it probably wouldn't be difficult to find someone with power if we didn't have it.

It was really hot this summer in SoCal and we sometimes have rolling blackouts. I was super worried that would happen because my stash is somewhere between 750-1000 ounces.

@T-Mom: WE have one! However, anyone with a generator isn't running it a lot because gas is so hard to come by. There are hundreds of cars in line at every gas station and the stations aren't even pumping. You have to sit there and wait for gas deliveries. So I think the safest bet would be to find a business with a freezer because they were the first to get power back on.

@Andrea: ah ok. I actually tried to store some frozen milk in a restaurant freezer while at a wedding in a hotel. They would not and said it was a health code issue (??). They ended up finding another freezer for me. Good luck, hope you find something!

Omg I cried once after losing one bottle. I can't imagine losing a big stash!

I showed up at daycare when it opened again on Wednesday with my stash in hand and begged to use their freezer! We went 72 hours without power but my milk was fine since I moved it after about 30 hours. A full freezer should hold its temp for about 48 hours FYI.
