Just ranting. Any help or tips would be nice.

I got my new breast shields in today for my pump because I needed smaller ones. LO is 2 1/2 weeks old so I thought today would be a good day to dabble into pumping. I'll be going back to work in 6 weeks or so.

I have no idea where to begin. I read up on breastfeeding and pumping during pregnancy...but just like I found with breastfeeding, no amount of reading can really prepare you for it. There are lots of things I didn't understand at all til I experienced it. Same for pumping now.

Worst of all, the 21mm breast shields I ordered are still too big!! That's the smallest size Medela makes, so I don't know what I'm going to do. It hurts and pulls quite a bit of areola in. I'm so frustrated.

LO is still using nipple shields when breastfeeding. We had a brief period where it looked like we might be able to wean off of them...then we went through a cluster feeding episode where it was easier just to use them since he basically didn't leave the boob. His latch has went back to being very shallow no matter what I do, so my nipples are so sore. I can't feed him without relying on my Boppy because my boobs are too big. They hang too low for me to comfortably support him...plus I have to compress to get (or attempt to get) a good latch and to hold the shield on. It's impossible to hold a baby with just one arm and also get him to the breast and latched with just that one arm. Luckily my supply seems abundant still but that's the only thing I have going for me.

This is not what I pictured when I decided to breastfeed. Ha
