Breastfeeding wasn't the easiest to get the hang of but with a nipple shield we got there. Then we weaned from the shield a week ago and apart from sore nipples - how the hell they ever gave me any pleasure is beyond me, lol - we were doing great. Then yesterday and today she's started freaking out. She'll feed well for about 7 or 8 minutes then get annoyed. Sometimes it seems like she struggles to latch again, or maybe she's annoyed with the flow.... Even if I burp her and put her back on she still freaks. She hates the bottle so I have to persevere with bfeeding. She usually loves nursing so I'm flummoxed. Baby girl is 8 weeks old. Any advice? Do you think maybe my supply is low and not satisfying her so she's kicking off?

The first advice I have is that this is normal. The second is to relax. Stressing out will lower your supply and pass on to baby. There could be a number of issues and a Lactation Consultant should be able to help you. I personally also got a lot of help from La Leche League and in my area they have a hotline for issues like this. Give them a call.
The thing I always looked at when things went weird were Wonder Weeks and Growth Spurts. They often explained everything.

I've noticed that P goes through stages (days or weeks) where she'll feed great & then start getting fussy at the breasts where full feedings turn into more mini feedings. I try to just go with it, nurse more often if needed (usually starting the next feed on the same breast if she didn't empty it), and we nurse through the night as well. So far we're at 8.5 months still going strong.

My LO did this occasionally, well she still does it occasionally. I just would swaddle her and then nurse, it seemed to get her to focus. The other thing was if she had to fart so Id cycled her legs until she got it out and then go back to nursing.

If you think it's gas, try burping before feedings. If you think she's annoyed that the flow isn't fast enough, try doing breast massage/compression while she eats to help the milk come out faster. That usually helps my Lo settle.

Thanks everyone. It's sooo frustrating not knowing what's wrong but the number of diapers she's had is fine so trying not to panic too much.

@travelgirl1: LO does this too, and I've never really figured out why...sometimes I think she wants to suck but doesn't want to eat so I offer a paci and she usually falls asleep...so maybe your LO is tired? I always think it's gas too, but 9 times out of 10 it's not. Good luck, just try and relax!

last night I took her in our bedroom to do the final feed and we lay down together for it and she was much more peaceful, going back to it when she was ready. I wish babies vame with a handbook -
You are doing a great job! Remember that babies are kinda programmed to cry. There is no mother that has it all right and the baby never cries. Some times there is nothing wrong but they are fussy. Give it some time if you can and be flexible and hopefully it will resolve itself
