I did not. I was really afraid prior to getting pregnant that my history of depression would give me a higher risk of getting PPD.

Yep. I'd never been officially diagnosed with depression but I know I've had it off and on since childhood. Got hit hard with PPD after DD, and not as bad with DS

I did not. I was very nervous about it and DH knew all the signs to look out for, but I never experienced any PPD. I do worry about the hormone drop when I stop nursing, though. I have heard that can be rough, too.

Seeing this gives me hope. I struggle with severe depression & I'm terrified of PPD. My doctors want me to stay on my meds during pregnancy but I'm still concerned about it getting worse with all the crazy hormone shifts

I didn't get PPD, but I got PPA. We knew the signs and quickly addressed it.
@PointeShoesTutus: To me, the fact that you are cognizant that it might happen and know how to treat it (and probably have existing coping mechanisms) means you are ahead of the game. It's a crap shoot whether it will happen, but don't let it terrify you. Make sure your husband is familiar with the signs (and any one else who will be around you consistently) and keep the dialogue open to discuss if he has ANY concerns. [[I say this last part because I knew I didn't have PPD, but I didn't realize that my anxiety wasn't normal. Thank God for my husband and family stepping in and letting me know I wasn't being my best self]]

@LBee: thanks for the advice. My husband was the one who spotted my last bout of depression so he's pretty in tune with my emotional health. I should look into PPA signs too and have a chat with him about it.

This is a hard one for me, depression runs in women, in my family. My grandmother, aunt, mother, but I've never had depression. From the day DS was born to approx. 5 months old I had ppd and ppa. Some nights I would literally not sleep because I would sit up all night just watching him breathe, because I was terrified of SIDS. Now at 8 months old all signs of ppa and ppd are gone. Now it's like I have newborn ptsd. I will never forget how hopeless I felt those first few months.

Yes. It was pretty severe (per my OB) and pretty much immediate. My OB and I were proactive and I started on Zoloft and therapy with a PPD specialist within weeks of LO's birth.

No, and I was very worried about it (history of depression, although hasn't recurred in years thankfully, but also my mom and possibly my grandmother had PPD). I do think in retrospect that I may have had PPA. I was so on the lookout for PPD symptoms that I didn't realize PPA was a thing. I just thought I was an extremely nervous and crazy first-time mom. Will definitely watching out for symptoms of both this time around.
@Jackiedavis87: I agree with this, it felt like newborn PTSD.

Yes. Worse with my first, though. I had a better idea of what to expect with my second.

Not really. I had a hard time emotionally after both kids were born, but I'm 99% sure it was related to the situation I was in (child care issues) and not hormones. Especially with DS. With DD, I did have a hard time bonding with her for a while, but again it was made way worse by a completely avoidable child care situation.

Not with my first, but with my 2nd. I think it ended up being more like PPA, because it took me 4 months to figure out what was going on. I just really wasn't expecting it.

Yes. PPD and PPA, and the anxiety got worse over the last four years. Finally got treatment and it was amazing. Then I got pregnant and now I'm off my meds. So I'm nervous for this pregnancy and post partum.

I suffer from anxiety and have had a couple of periods of depression years ago. So I was fully expecting to have issues, but I did not experience ppa or ppd.
