We started at a week shy of 6 months. I made roasted butternut squash (in season) puree.

I went straight to smashed avocado and sweet potato (homemade) puree. I didn't give M jarred purees for a while. We never did cereal. I only did oatmeal around 8 months because I wanted to offer her some other options.
ETA: We started a week or 2 before 6 months.

We started with purees....I think sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and pears were among the firsts. We didn't do cereal until later when I used to to thicken up the purees.

We started with rice cereal and then moved on to avocado. Now we're trying string beans (she loves them!) and I'm going to make sweet potato in a few days.

Hi fellow Feb mama! We started rice cereal at 4+1 just to let her practice with the texture & spoon. We give her a little bit every few days. I started with it SUPER thin, and I thicken it a little bit every time I give it to her. She's doing pretty well with the cereal, but depending on if she seems ready, I think we'll start jarred purees at 5 months.
ETA: We're planning on starting with squash since we were given a bunch of it!

We started around 5.5 months as well with avocado. He hated it. But then we moved on to sweet potatoes, carrots and apples and he loves them all. We came back to avocado and he likes it better now!

We started at 5 months with bananas. We then moved on to sweet potato, avocado, and we're now on carrots. She's loved it all so far!

We started a couple of weeks before 6 months. We've done bananas, sweet potato, peas, and now pears. We won't give him cereal.

We started one week before she turned 6 months with bananas just for fun! I had wanted to skip cereal all together but at her 6 month check up her doc strongly recommended we start with rice or oatmeal cereal and thinks it's a bad idea to skip it. However, I read that there's a high level of arcenic in a lot of infant brand rice cereals and that freaked me out!! So I fed her mixed grain cereal instead. I gave that to her twice and she liked it, but now I'm moving on to other veggie and fruit purees.

5.5 mths swt potato
We didn't do the 3 dat new food rule.
In the first ten days he tried and ate: bananas, green beans, carrots, avocado, swt potato, pear, peas, etc.

We skipped rice cereal and did homemade purees at 6 month; avocado first then the usual suspects. Even though he exhibited all readiness signs and interest, it wasn't until this past week (7 months) that he is eating more readily instead of just playing with it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!! Hopefully we will get to try out some of these soon. I'm pretty excited to see how B will react to foods!
