was weaning a nightmare?
I plan to wean LO at a year old, and she's a little milk addict (6 months). She absolutely refuses a bottle..which sucks, cause she was fine with it til 6 weeks when I had to stop pumping (constant blocked ducts).
Recently tried again and no go. Tried tommee tippee, evenflo/medela, and calma. can't afford to keep buying bottles, haha! we're trying the sippy cup now...maybe she'll just skip straight to sippy?

E went straight to the sippy and happily only nurses 1x a day rigth now at a year old.

@prettylizy: @Mrs. Jacks: oh thank god. when did your babies get the hang of it? she just kind of gnaws on the spout right now.

@sorrycharlie: since she didn't take bottles, she didn't really get the concept of tipping her head back to drink from a sippy and would do the exact same thing when I gave her a traditional sippy. I bought the zoli straw cup and she caught on to that a lot faster. The straw has a closure type thing on it, so if I blew into the cup, the straw would fill with water and then as soon as she bit down she would get water in her mouth. She figured it out in less than a day.

@sorrycharlie: She figured it out pretty early because she seriously would only take 1-2 ounces out of the bottle. I'm thinking it was around 11 months?

I couldn't tell if she was getting anything at dinner tonight or just spitting it out. But she was putting it to her mouth which is a start! lol.

@Mrs. Jacks: I was hoping she'd take to it sooner so I can get some appts done..hair, teeth..lol! she won't even take an oz. She slaps the bottle away angrily - or, uses her fingers to pinch the nipple and let milk leak everywhere! oy! haha

@Mrs. Jacks: hmm I can't remember the blog - but we've tried most of the "common" tricks...when she's full, when she's hungry, me nowhere near by, me giving the bottle, dh giving the bottle..etc. she actually smacked it away when dh tried and grinned at him. do you mean milk on a spoon? i haven't tried that one - she inhales her purees from a spoon though

We weaned at 15 months, no problem. We just went straight to sippy cups. It helped that he had a cold and was striking cause of it. I took the opportunity to wean.

@sorrycharlie: Ooh, check out my bottle strike post. I talk about a few other ideas... (super hot milk, outside, bouncing on the ball, in babywearing, and other creative alternatives that got 1-2 ounces in her at a time). We had to make it work because I was at work full time.
