Mine went from about 10 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart in about 2 hours!

Mine started at 2 minutes apart, 1 minute long. After about 5 hours, I decided it was really labor and I should go to the hospital.

Like 15 or 16 hours? They started at 6am-ish (just bad enough that I couldn't sleep through them), were like 18-20 minutes apart for hours. By 4pm or so they were around 12 minutes apart, and by around 10 pm they were just under 5 minutes apart. I went in to L&D at 11pm, got sent home because labor stalled while I was there. Two hours later they were coming hard at 2-3 minutes apart.

Mine became 5 minutes apart probably in two hours time. I went into labor after work. When I couldn't get comfortable, we timed it.

I am 40 weeks 2 days and I had a few hours' worth of contractions at about 10-15 minutes apart for a minute each but they seem to have stopped. Again. This child does not want to come out!

@swedishfish: Do you have a breast pump? Try it out! I swear that kept my labor going when I thought it was going to peter out. (Or otherwise stimulate your nipples. But not for very long.)

@FutureMrsMcK: no, the insurance company won't let me get one until after the baby's birth. I'll try the nipple stimulation after I get home from dinner. Good idea!

@swedishfish: My midwife suggested nipple stimulation to get things moving (for no more than 10 minutes at a time). I took it a step further by using the breast pump to do it (because I was feeling lazy, lol).

@FutureMrsMcK: haha, I totally understand the feeling lazy part! All I want to do is hang out on the couch...which I did for most of the day.

I started feeling crampy for about an hour and then they were 5 min apart. That lasted for an hour and then my water broke.

They went from 10-15 minutes apart to 5 minutes apart in about 3 hours. I had been getting random bouts of contractions that would start then stop for a couple days, though.

Many many hours and at the hospital they added pitocin and then another more than day--so I'd say if I hadn't gone to the hospital it would have been 3 or 4 days?

48 hours and pitocin. Babe was posterior and wouldn't move down/engage. But she was born about 6 hours after the pit!

Mine were five minutes apart when I started to think this might be it-within an hour they were 3 to 4 minutes apart.

I labored at home for around 24 hours and never got to the recommended contractions... But I had other signs that told me I needed to go in.

@swedishfish: Good luck! Sounds promising. Def rest, I should have rested more, labor takes energy so relax if that's what your body is telling you to do now.
When mine first started they varied from 10 - 20 min apart and sometimes they took longer breaks than that. It took a good 12 hours for them to get around 10 min apart and that's when I was pretty sure I was in labor and things (like losing MP) started to happen. It took another 12 hours though for them to get to around 5 min apart and that's when my water broke. Once my water broke things started to move faster and we went to the hospital, they probably were 2-5 min apart right after my water broke, which made me a bit nervous but our hospital was only 5 min away (though she ended up taking another 12 hours to show up).

About 17 hrs but then they went back to 6-7 min apart for another 10 hrs before they went back to 5 min apart. Bouncing on a ball really helped move them closer together.

Whoa! Many of the responses seem to have it start quite quickly. That's promising and very exciting! Is it weird to be looking forward to these contractions?! Ha I'm ready to get the ball Rollin too!!!! Hope your baby decides, I'm ready mommy!!!

I was induced with pitocin, but I really didn't notice my contractions as much until they were 2 and then 1 minute apart. Total active labor was 6 hours.

I think I first realized I was having time-able contractions around 6/7 minutes apart -- maybe after an hour or two they went to 5 and kept on getting closer after that. Only made it 9/10 hours laboring at home until they were about 2/3 min apart consistently and I was ready for the hospital (and epidural, ha)

My first two contractions were 4 minutes apart and they never slowed down.

About 4 hours, though I consider the real start of my labor when they were already like that. Before they were so mild and random.
